Looking to hear opinions across the industry on a particular topic. Do you think it is a conflict of interest for a general contractor to plan/schedule their work for a turnaround or outage? Do you prefer to have 3rd party master scheduler or direct hire master scheduler? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

A genuine scheduler is a comptroller. By Anthony L. Lowery, G.F.P.S., 00011 337-853-5333 Anthonyllowery@outlook.com A Comptroller is a specialist in Time, Productivity, and Cost and, otherwise stated, an Oracle of significant future project events. Many thoughts this morning, today, Tuesday, March 12, 2024. I’m certain many C.P.A.s would love to know scheduling software with the same competency as a P.C.E. Project Control Engineer. Knowing the complete functionality of modern scheduling software is an important step. But still, only a tiny first step into the world of Project Controls, as G.I.G.O. Garbage In, Garbage Out still applies. Much of the world has become lulled into an acceptance of incorrectly built schedules, and for a long time, many essential decisions have become tainted by erroneous information. Are people born into this type of work, or attend a class where they learn to paint lines on a page and become schedulers? No! Education and extreme experience are required. Aren’t any of these want-to-be schedulers even slightly curious about why modern scheduling software has so many built-in functionalities? What are the risks affecting correct schedules: 001. Incompetent schedulers, “Picture Painters” 002. Incorrect/improper information supplied 003. Weather, rain, lightning, etc. 004. Low productivity

If the person you are interviewing does not know: 1. The definition of E.V.M. Earned Value Management 2. How do you competently utilize the Resource worksheet, including the calendars, so the complete power of report generating is utilized for shareholder reports? 3. Most scheduling programs are super accounting software with significant cost and productivity reporting functionality. So, do they know how to use this? 4. Know the work of every person on a job to calculate a correct schedule. 5. There is no scheduling program that is magic alone; it takes an expert to make it seem like magic occurs. 6. Remaining Work reports 7. Project burndown report 8. Critical Tasks 9. Cash Flow 10. Cost overruns 11. Earned Value Report 12. Resource cost Overview 13. Task Cost Overview 14. Overallocated Resources 15. Resource Overview 16. Late Tasks 17. Milestone Report 18. Slipping Tasks 19. [If they don’t know these functionalities of the intended use software, then they are not competent Schedulers.] 20. A competent scheduler is not unlike the old-fashioned superintendent walking around the job site, ensuring all persons remain busy.

Planning= What + How (reduces delays during jobs). Scheduling: The process of determining which jobs get worked on, based on the priority, the resources, and asset availability. Scheduling= who+ when (reduces delays between jobs).

✈️ By now, I'm certain you're all too familiar with my passion for piloting and navigating industry #shutdowns #turnarounds #outages and #pitSTOps using direct tool-time benchmark estimates during the detailed planning phase (regardless of which ERP/CMMS or scheduling software is utilized) while calculating PF (Productivity Factor) during the scheduling phase. Here is an example of how you might create a PF Calendar for a 1.4 PF calculation in MS Project®, for which DSM (Dynamic Scheduling Methodology, as I created and perfected over the years, is famous for). And yes, DSM/PF works with any project scheduling software. The trick is to understand that #iSTOps are events and campaigns which differ in so many ways from traditional EPC projects. In other words, we do not use traditional aspects such as: CPM, Baselines, Critical Path, WBS, SPI, or Lookaheads (radical, I know; however, what we do use is DSM, Milestone Variance, Float Burn, Longest Path, Systemization, CPI, and Daily Shift Reports). 📌We schedule work, not resources, and, 📌we plan 100% but schedule only 75%, relying on 3Cs to communicate, coordinate, and collaborate the 25% of activities such as: LOTO, PSVs, Reliability Work Orders (E/I & Rotating), and PSSR. Cool, huh! 😎👍 iAPSCC® #planner #scheduler #costcontroller

Market Development Manager | I help Maintenance, Turnarounds and Shutdowns departments to be more successful | Trusted Advisor
Friday's session with Jordy Palit was insightful! We had a deep dive into the collaboration between planning and scheduling within a Shutdown, Turnaround and Outage (STO) team. Our focus was on tooling perspective to support the people in the field. As I mentioned in my previous post, for a Turnaround (Lead) Planner and Scheduler, ensuring real-time data harmony between Cleopatra Enterprise and Primavera P6 is key to seamless collaboration and decision-making. But what if there is a difference (e.g. duration) in the two systems and data exchange is requested? Well, you will see it and it's up to you to decide what the truth is. Thanks to Cleopatra Enterprise's Total Turnaround Management software, it's a game-changing solution. #CleopatraEnterprise #Cleopatraupdates #STOControl #planning #scheduling #Turnarounds #Shutdowns #Outages #Maintenance
