The Economic Impact of Football on Local Communities? Football - often referred to as "the beautiful game" - is more than just a sport in the UK; it's a cultural and economic powerhouse. Beyond the glitz and glamour of the Premier League, football has a profound impact on local communities across the country. From grassroots clubs to professional teams, the football industry generates substantial revenue through ticket sales, merchandise, and broadcasting rights. Often, we see a portion of these earnings reinvested into local economies, supporting businesses, creating jobs, and improving infrastructure. Football clubs act as community hubs, providing facilities for youth development, education, and social programs. These initiatives not only benefit young people but also strengthen the overall fabric of the community. It is evident that football plays a crucial role in driving economic growth and social cohesion within local communities. By recognising and supporting the positive impact of the sport, we can continue to foster its development and ensure its enduring legacy. Do you have a local football team? How has it impacted your local community? Share your experiences below! #football #soccer #community #grassroots #kitround

Brighton women football team are hoping to have a purpose built stadium by the 2027/28 season. Here's 3 reasons why purpose-built stadiums can help women's football grow: 1. Most WSL teams currently share their grounds with men's football or rugby teams. By having their own grounds they don't have to worry about scheduling around other fixtures and have a stadium where they are the priority (not treated like a second class team) 2. They can have the ideal size of stadium to continue to grow. Not too small (like Chelsea's Kingsmeadow) and not too big (like trying to fill Old Trafford right now). In time, I'm sure they will consistently fill the main stadiums, but it's unreasonable to expect crowds go from a few hundred to tens of thousands in the short term 3. They can be built with a different fan base in mind. From more female toilets to more family friendly facilities such as food portions designed with children in mind. I hope Brighton have spoken to their fans and get the chance to consider all the possibilities, rather than follow the current blueprint but smaller. Follow me for more on women's football. #WomensFootball

Who would have thought that collectively holding our breaths, and clenching our knuckles could bring us closer together? Watching England vs Spain a few weeks ago in the final of the Euros with my daughter and seeing her disappointment when the final whistle blew took me back to my first football match. As you might imagine it was at Old Trafford. I was 10 years old, and saw the mighty Reds Devils draw 0-0 against Torpedo Moscow in the UEFA Cup. Despite a lacklustre result, the feeling was incomparable. But it wasn’t just the excitement of the game or the atmosphere. Being in those stands and cheering on the team alongside thousands creates a real sense of unity. In these moments, regardless of who you are, there is a sense that we were all in it together. Fast forward to 2024, and I am long-standing Manchester United season ticket holder with my friend Ryan Pereira. Sport has a unique gift that allows us to find that all important common ground regardless of our background. And this ability should never be underestimated. Yet with all its power to bring about connection, we sadly know that the beautiful game has on several occasions fallen short of creating an entirely inclusive and unifying atmosphere for all. This is just one of the reasons why it’s an honour to be involved with the Premier League Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Standard (PLEDIS), which is committed to guiding clubs towards enhanced inclusivity and community outreach. Attending multiple panels with my PLEDIS colleagues has offered valuable insights into the community involvement and efforts of football clubs. Many are actively promoting inclusivity within stadiums, actively combating issues like racism and homophobic chants, whilst also battling online hate. The panels are starting up again during preseason, and I’m looking forward to seeing the progress that continues to be made. You know the line all too well - we still have a long way to go. Yet, I truly believe that we are taking important steps towards ensuring that everyone who walks into a stadium can experience the connection that team sports can bring. Chelsea Football Club's new youth-development approach ⚽🏴 Chelsea FC are switching their approach to academy football under the guidance of co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley. Owners Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly are pushing for a seamless integration of the academy and first team, ensuring youth development and recruitment work hand-in-hand to feed the first team. By significantly increasing investment in youth recruitment, Chelsea aims to produce first-team-ready players directly from the academy, minimizing the need for loan spells, which had been central to the club's youth strategy in the past. Using Eyeball can facilitate the uncovering of potentially first-team-compatible footballers for your academy, applying stat filters and utilizing custom sorting to search through the database of 148K+ players on the platform for the prospects most suited to your club.
