My first article on Italy Magazine is about street art festivals transforming Italy's rural area. In assessment for UNESCO, council recommends against Estonia Theater annex In a recent assessment for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) regarding a planned annex to the Estonia Theater in Tallinn, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) recommended building an opera house elsewhere, not as an extension to the current building. In its technical review, the Estonian representative to UNESCO Priit Pallum, ICOMOS noted that the planned extension would overshadow the historic Estonia Theater building without any architectural integration, and recommended considering building a new theater elsewhere in Tallinn, in order to realize its architectural potential while at the same time satisfying its operational needs. ICOMOS stressed that if an extension to the historical theater building does remain under consideration, then the scope of the intrusion into the existing building should be defined in the course of a broader debate in order to preserve cultural heritage values, including the physical structure as well as the local context. https://lnkd.in/ddWEyekB #UNESCO #EstoniaTheater #CulturalHeritage #Recommendation #UNESCOassessment

Just announced: Free entry to WA Museums all summer Seven museums across WA will be free entry from December 15 to March 31, including WA Museum Boola Bardip. The free museum initiative is part of a $1.1 million program that will run from December 15, 2024 until March 31, 2025 – and includes general admission to all museums run by the State Government’s Western Australian Museum organisation. Alongside WA Museum Boola Bardip, other museums that will be free entry include the WA Maritime Museum in Fremantle and Gwoonwardu Mia Gascoyne Aboriginal Heritage and Cultural Centre, while the WA Shipwreck Museum, Museum of the Great Southern, Museum of Geraldton and Museum of the Goldfields will remain free to enter. While general admission is free, some exhibitions will still require paid tickets – such as the virtual reality experience “The Great Kimberley Wilderness” at WA Museum Boola Bardip, and The French Collection Film Festival at the WA Maritime Museum.

There are plenty of great art museum events to look forward to in 2025. Major museum openings, biennials, and retrospectives will be happening at museums around the world. Notable highlights include the reopening of New York's Studio Museum in Harlem, the New Museum, and the Frick Collection, alongside Sotheby’s move to Marcel Breuer’s iconic Madison Avenue building. In Europe, there will be a Yayoi Kusama retrospective and Wolfgang Tillmans’ unique exhibition at the Centre Pompidou before its renovation. In Brazil, the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP) unveils a 14-floor expansion, while South Korea’s Leeum Museum hosts its first Lee Bul survey. The U.S. welcomes a tour of rare Torlonia Marbles, the Met’s redesigned Rockefeller Wing, and a Jack Whitten retrospective at MoMA. Biennials in Berlin, Sharjah, and Central Asia push artistic boundaries, while Paris's Palais de Tokyo launches an "American Season." Today is World Art Day, a day dedicated to promoting the development and enjoyment of art. According to UNESCO, "art nurtures creativity, innovation and cultural diversity for all peoples across the globe and plays an important role in sharing knowledge and encouraging curiosity and dialogue." According to data from a Statista Consumer Insights survey, a fairly low share of the population bought tickets to museums or art exhibitions in the past 12 months. Of the countries selected for this chart, China had the highest share of respondents having purchased entrance tickets at 16 percent of online respondents, followed by India (15 percent) and Italy (14 percent). Countries such as Germany and Brazil had even lower shares at just 6 percent and 7 percent, respectively.

Sydney’s Australian Museum’s recent blockbuster exhibition Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs - held in our wonderful city between November 2023 to May 2024 - is among the most successful museum exhibitions in NSW history, both in terms of visitors and economic impact, according to a report released recently. Prepared by Inform Economics, the report states that the exhibition attracted more than 508,000 visitors and contributed more than $57 million to the NSW economy. In addition, every $1 spent on delivering the Ramses exhibition returned benefits of more than $11 for the NSW community with a benefit-cost ratio (BCR) for the exhibition investment of 11.2. Kim McKay AO the Australian Museum Director and CEO, who secured the exhibition exclusively for Sydney, said the economic impact report identifies the value of the cultural economy for growth and vitality in NSW.
