The Asia Group and Japan Exchange and Teaching Program(me) (JET) Alumni Association of DC hosted a "Foldraiser" in solidarity with the U.S.-Japan community in Seattle around the stolen Sadako Sasaki statue from Seattle Peace Park. TAG staff, JET alumni, representatives of the Embassy of Japan in the USA, and guests folded 300 cranes to be placed at the site of the stolen statue. Thank you to everyone who joined and to Andy's Pizza which generously donated food for the event!

Round table discussion I have been waiting for 30 years for this round table discussion. We know we could not solve all types of crime or lock away millions of people in and out. Therefore, I want to find out based on each of our experiences and create a friendly channel to communicate whether with BJA grant or private donations from religious organizations or other resources. We all believed in 2nd chance. This round table discussion is to meet all CURE leaders who is still actively seeking resources. They are willing to exchange and share their experiences based on SWOT. We welcome two sides of tables to come together whether is CJ professionals or returned citizens. My goal is to build an army of supporters within one another 10 years from now. This is a 10-year goal. I may not be like Jean Auldridge from VA CURE that could welcome return citizens to live inside my home, but I knew where they could go and give them hope. It’s with heavy hearts that today we mark two years from the start of the war in Ukraine. People for People was created in response to the outbreak of the war when three entrepreneurs were compelled by what they were seeing on their screens to put words into action. While working to raise financial support and relief supplies for those fleeing the conflict, we met incredible people who opened their hearts to help strangers in need. Here in the Netherlands, many people who had made their way to safety contacted us to see how they could help others. We believe there is beauty in the human spirit and, with all the darkness in the world, we’re privileged to see the glimpses of light as people reach out to help, understand, and support each other. There may always be conflict in this world, but there will also always be ‘People for People.’ Today we want to highlight two amazing organizations that need your support: Netherlands for Ukraine The organization was started by Kseniya Negrutsa-Godska and her partner Bas Godska. Since the war started, Kseniya put her business on hold to help people fleeing the conflict 24/7. Their main focus at the moment is on supporting the medical sector. With a large part of the Ukrainian medical facilities being damaged or destroyed, the state program can only provide 2,000 prosthetic limbs annually, yet estimates show that 30,000 people are in need. Along with providing prosthetics and medical supplies, the NL4UA is also helping to evacuate oncology and critically wounded patients to the Netherlands. “Ukraine will not make it without European support. NL4UA.org has arranged medical evacuations for 105 Ukrainian patients, we need your support to proceed,” Kseniya says. Now the organization is focused on providing support to areas that aren’t being reached by large-scale aid. Projects are demand-driven depending on what’s needed most. For example, they’ve built drinking water extraction and filtration points for villages, provided temporary housing solutions, mobile medical crews, and more. There are three more weeks until our first week of Uncharitable Festival! Thanks to the support of Civic Power Fund and The Tudor Trust we have been able to release even more free tickets and partner with Interpreters Of Colour Network for another year to provide BSL interpretation. Accessible knowledge is so important to us, and we know how often smaller organisations and workers on lower income are priced out of conferences in the third sector. We have four events for our first week of Uncharitable Festival, with incredible speakers Khadijah Diskin and Natalie Armitage from JMB, Edem Barbara Ntumy from Reproductive Justice Initiative, Orsod Malik from Stuart Hall Foundation, and Mohammed Elnaiem from The Decolonial Centre - and many more who we will be announcing in the lead up. The horrors of war are regrettably never far from our minds these days. One only has to watch the news daily to witness the destruction that’s taking place in Gaza, Sudan, Lebanon and Ukraine whilst mourning the tragic loss of life that’s being caused by these conflicts. Of course, war affects everyone across these regions – but children in particular are enduring untold suffering, and as they don’t have a voice, someone needs to speak up for them. War Child is a charity that was set up in 1993 during the conflict in the Balkans, specifically to alert the world to the plight of children caught in the crossfire of that brutal war. Their mission is still the same today as it was then – to ensure a safe future for every child living through war, and to do everything within their power to protect, educate, and stand up for the rights of children who are experiencing conflict. Adopting an innovative approach to fundraising, they decided to partner with some of the most recognisable names in the music and gaming industries, launching a charity-driven record label and fostering a burgeoning gaming community. Despite being well known for their core work of protecting children in war zones, the pioneering work they were doing in the music and gaming industries was not registering as strongly with the public – something they were eager to rectify. They needed a website that would address their key objectives, while increasing online fundraising in the process, which is why they turned to us to help them create one that was fit for the future. Research forms the bedrock of everything we do, so our starting point was to understand War Child’s audiences. By doing this we were able to unlock insights that would inform our strategy to turn visitors into supporters. Working alongside stakeholders at the charity also enabled us to make better-informed decisions when it came to answering their brief, as well as using audience data to help cement our action plan. “The stripped-back primary navigation and large, purpose-driven calls to action across the site make it much easier for users to find the information they need, get involved or donate. We are very happy with our new site and are so grateful to the team at Fat Beehive. We can’t wait to see where our partnership takes us next!” As you can see, Alicia Conti, War Child’s website project manager, was very happy with the way we answered their brief.
