The Multi-Faceted Solopreneur | Podcast Host & Community Advocate | Elevating Immigrant Voices | Crafting Narratives of Hope, Healing & Empowerment
We've all heard the saying, "Variety is the spice of life," but for many in the South Asian community, our plates tell a different story. The staple combo of dal, roti, and sabji is delicious and comforting, but did you know it might be leaving your gut less than thrilled? The "Dal, Roti, Sabji" Routine: While it's a beloved tradition, sticking to this limited menu can starve our gut microbiome of the variety it craves. Just like a party needs a good mix of guests to be lively, our gut bacteria thrive on a diverse diet. The Fear of Food Variety: Let's face it, we're often stuck in a culinary rut, hesitant to explore beyond familiar flavors. But our gut bacteria are like curious travelers—they thrive on a wide range of foods, from fruits and veggies to grains and proteins. Limiting our diet is like feeding our gut the same bland dish every day! The Double-Edged Sword of Misinformation: We've all been there—taking advice from well-meaning relatives who swear by home remedies or dietary myths. While community wisdom is valuable, it’s crucial to recognize that our nutritional needs are as unique as our fingerprints. The Call to Action: So, how do we shake things up? It's time to expand our culinary horizons and introduce a vibrant array of foods to our diet. Not only will this please our taste buds, but it'll also keep our gut happy and healthy. Ready to break the monotony? Tune in to our latest episode with Raman Kapoor from BioAro Inc. and discover how to diversify your plate and boost your health.

Who can tell me more about this iconic cake? (My All Day Coach and All Day Companies clients in the Midwest have an edge...😉) 🥥 🍒 🎂 For long-term #weightloss, it is SO important you are NOT restricting your favorite foods! I can not stress this enough. Deprivation and scarcity ALWAYS leads to overindulgence. Read that again. Slowly introducing these "bad" foods into the diets of my nutrition coaching clients is key, and something I spend significant time on with them, as they're working to change their life. (Working with me is about SO much more than losing weight!) Doing this can result in binging at first (this is normal and so common), however, it quickly evolves from an "I can't have this" mentality to an "I can have this whenever I want" mentality. ⬆️ this is the BEST feeling ⬆️ If you've struggled with yo-yo dieting for as long as you can remember and find yourself demonizing certain foods, I would love to work with you 🥰 Comment "I'm in" for your FREE complementary food analysis below 😉

The Psychology of the Forbidden Fruit Effect: Why Restricting Certain Foods Backfires The forbidden fruit effect perfectly illustrates the paradox of food restriction: the more we forbid ourselves from eating a particular food, the more we desire it. When a food becomes "off-limits," it often increases in allure, making it harder to resist. This can lead to intense cravings, fixation, and, eventually, overeating when willpower runs out. Rather than permanently banning certain foods, a more balanced approach is to see them as choices rather than restrictions. The psychology behind the forbidden fruit effect suggests that rigidly eliminating a food can magnify our cravings. On the other hand, if we view food as a choice—based on personal priorities and goals—our relationship with food can become healthier and more sustainable. For example, instead of saying, "Chocolate is bad, and I can never eat it again," we can reframe our thinking: "During this period of pursuing fat loss, fitting a high-calorie chocolate into my limited calorie budget may not be worth it for me right now." This shift moves the focus from restriction to a conscious decision, which feels less punitive and more empowering. It’s important to recognise that food restrictions, while sometimes necessary for health or specific goals, should not stem from a rigid mindset. When we choose to abstain from a certain food, it’s important to remember that it’s a decision we make for ourselves, not an imposed rule. The key is reframing the narrative. By telling yourself, "It’s not worth it for me," rather than "It’s forbidden," you reduce the allure of the food, making it easier to stick to your goals. The food isn’t off-limits—it’s simply not the right choice for your current priorities. Takeaway The forbidden fruit effect increases cravings for foods deemed off-limits. Rather than restricting foods, reframe them as conscious choices based on your goals. This approach reduces cravings and creates a healthier relationship with food. #MindfulEating #NutritionPsychology #HealthyChoices #FoodFreedom #forbiddenfruit #cravings #mindset #versatude

Sweet Potato Magic: Nourishing Family Health Sweet potatoes have become a cornerstone in our family's diet, serving as a reliable go-to for maintaining our digestive well-being, especially for the kids. Surprisingly, they've embraced this nutritious choice without any coaxing, making it a delightful addition to their meals. For my daughter, dealing with Hashimoto's, a thyroid condition, sweet potatoes play a crucial role in her dietary plan. Opting for nutritional monitoring over medication has been our approach. Early on, she experienced severe constipation and fatigue, symptoms that prompted our exploration into dietary solutions. Navigating this journey hasn't been without challenges; not every attempted food aligns with her preferences. However, sweet potatoes emerged as a clear winner, providing a versatile and reliable source for fiber intake. They've become my go-to, ensuring a quick and nutritious fix when needed. While my experiences are personal decisions made for my family, it's essential to note that I am not a doctor. Monitoring my daughter's levels through blood tests has shown positive results, with doctors no longer recommending medication. Always consult your healthcare professional. For the average individual, sweet potatoes are a fantastic and healthy addition to any diet. Here's a simple recipe for a quick, time-saving treat. Enjoy and stay tuned for more tips on saving time while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Co Founder of clo&flo | Integrative Nutrition Health Coach | Pilates Practitioner | I help Business Leaders Integrate a Wellness Plan into their Business Plan to fuel their Success using Movement, Nutrition and Mindset
What are you feeding yourself on a daily basis? And how is it impacting your performance and more importantly how you feel? Food is one of the most powerful ways we have to control our health. What we eat on a daily basis can profoundly influence our physical, mental, emotional well-being and performance. Put diesel in a petrol car it I'll breakdown. Similarly our bodies need the right kind of fuel to function but busy lives lead us to eat processed food and sugary pick me ups, leaving us deficient in energy boosting nutrients such as iron, magnesium, and B vitamins. Many of the foods we eat create artificial energy from instant blood sugar surges. The foods we should consume are the slow releasing, nutrient dense, low GI foods. Consider incorporating a variety of slow releasing wholegrains, proteins and fats into your daily diet for sustained energy, better mental clarity, and overall well-being. These foods are nutrient-dense, low GI, and help maintain stable blood sugar levels: Vegetables: leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, bell peppers Fruits: All berries, citrus fruits, apples, pears Wholegrains: Quinoa, whole oats, brown rice, flaxseed Fats: olive oil, avocado, nuts and seeds Proteins: wild caught salmon, mackerel, sardines, grass fed meat As a health coach my primary focus is empowering my clients to chose the right foods for performance, cognitive function, energy & gut health. When combined with the right movement, and mindset we have the power to heal, reach optimum health and feel our best on a daily basis. #foodasmedicine #healthcoach #wellnesscoach
