Read essay by Ambassador Chas Freeman. Insightful analysis contrasting "Rule of Law" vs. "Rule by Law". The present "Rules based Order" is, of course, Rule by Law. You unilaterally make the rules, decide to whom they apply, and who is exempt. Freeman makes interesting historical parallels to periods of past turbulence and the solutions found, in different times, and across civilizations. My take, in this framework: Europe today, and the G-7 more broadly, is turning Post-Westphalian. China has a long tradition of "Rule by Law" but has (oddly enough) begun to reiterate the formerly espoused 1950s mantra of the "five principles of peaceful coexistence". The Global South may be Pre-Westphalian. Australia will pay no attention because we are an exceptionally weak-minded nation that has decided to dance to the trusty Imperial tune of our heritage.

What is the new #antisemitism? The Historical Society of Israel in collaboration with the Leo Baeck Institute, invites you to the event "Old/New Antisemitism? Between Past and Present". The event follows current burning questions and in honor of the English edition of the book “Antisemitism and the Politics of History”. The book “Antisemitism and the Politics of History” is dedicated to exploring the advantages and disadvantages of the concept of 'antisemitism' as a research tool. More than twenty researchers from universities in Israel, Europe, and the United States provide a rich and contemporary approach to fundamental questions concerning the subject. Edited by Guy Miron and Scott Ury, the book includes studies on antiquity and the Middle Ages, discussions on the place of antisemitism in the study and memory of the Holocaust, and original studies on the phenomena of antisemitism in modern times up to the present day. The discussion will be with the participants of Shulamit Volkov, Mustafa Abbasi and Havi Dreifuss, in addition to the book’s editors.
