There are a few things I hear at awards events that make me cringe... 'I didn’t write an acceptance speech because I didn't expect to win...' Didn't you enter to win? 'This was unexpected...' Um... didn't you enter with an expectation of winning? 'I'll just wing my acceptance speech...' No! In the heat of the moment, your brain may blank. 'I just want to thank...insert laundry list of people...' 'This is such a surprise...' 'I'm so nervous...' Awards are a tool to use in your marketing/PR strategy. Which means entering isn't just about writing copy, it's about weaving the process into your overarching plan to make the most of it. That means planning your speech. Your acceptance speech is your moment in the spotlight...your chance to share your powerful message and to make an impact. It's worth taking the time to pre write your speech. You only get 30 to 60 seconds...not much time to get your message across. Use your time on stage as effectively as possible. Here's a few examples Opening line - is your 'bam' statement. Get people's attention. What do they need to hear about what you do and why you do it? Second paragraph - bring home your message with a powerful followup statement. Close with a few thank you - not all and sundry. Thank the awards provider and people closely involved in your business. This is your acceptance speech. Finish on your tagline - bring home the speech with something you say all the time. It doesn't have to be perfect; it just has to have some heart and thought behind it. If you’re wondering what the judges will be looking for, it’s simple: clear objectives and creative and effective implementation, with tangible and demonstrable results. Each entry must include information under the following headings. 1. Campaign objectives Judges will be looking for entries that clearly identify the objectives of the campaign or project 2. Strategy Judges will look at the quality of the strategy that was implemented considering the budget, objective and target audience stated 3. Creativity The level of creativity and quality of campaign insight. 4. Implementation The quality of implementation when delivering the campaign or project will be assessed. 5. Results & Evaluation The judges will be looking to reward evaluation that includes KPIs across the campaign outputs, campaign outtakes and importantly – campaign outcomes. 6.
