Britain’s new Hinkley Point C nuclear plant demands some extreme engineering. Construction teams have even called in the world’s largest land based crane — “Big Carl” — for some of the heaviest lifts, including positioning the dome over the first reactor. When it completes, this vast site will produce around 7% of the UK’s total electricity supply. But things have been far from plain sailing. The original 2025 completion date has slipped to 2029, with full power reached by 2031, and the budget has ballooned. What started at £18BN could end up as high as £46BN after inflation. That’s around $57BN and would make Hinkley Point C the most expensive nuclear power plant ever constructed. would like to discuss potential opportunities for further collaboration.
Truly fascinating. Thanks for posting. Have you been near to see the site? What a marvel of construction and engineering
Gotta love "big Carl"
Likely one of the last big nuclear builds. These are giving way to simplified SMRs which have to be much more cost efficient to be economically competitive!
Hinkley Point C is a truly groundbreaking effort in nuclear engineering 👷🏗️

3wHad to of been fun to design that!
