Lotto had their biggest year of sales in the 2023FY & I think they'll beat it in the 2024FY just finished. The recent $50mil jackpot hype was real & this balloons sales. Even in a contracting economy we can find the cash to have a chance to win! During the 2023 financial year, the biggest jackpot prize was ‘only’ $33mil. Lotto sales for the year ended 30 June 2023 were $1.5billion (including GST). 44% of those were from digital channels. This $1.5billion in sales was slightly above the recent high in the 2021 financial year. From what I could see when going back through some prior reports, the 2023FY sales were the highest in Lotto NZ’s history. I couldn’t find a bigger year than that. The 2017 financial year had $1.2billion. The 2020 and 2021 financial years for Lotto both had $50million must be won jackpots. These boost sales massively. This financial year (the 2024FY) will include the run-up to the $50mil jackpot so that $1.5billion might be beaten again. There aren’t many businesses in NZ doing $1.5billion in sales. I can promise you that. Impressive numbers in a contracting economy. Here are some Lotto stats from the 2023FY report: 💰 53 cents is kept back for prizes 💰 25 cents is given to the NZ lottery Grants Board and used to ‘build sustainable communities around New Zealand’. 💰 12 cents goes to tax 💰 4 cents for retailer commission and transaction fees 💰 6 cents is used for operating costs of L0tto Lotto is designed to fund areas of the community and almost acts as a redistribution of wealth from everyone who plays, to the winners, the government and the community projects funded by the Lottery grants board. At the end of last year, I promised to stop negotiating on our pricing and stop even entertaining conversations for lowball offers on our main products. At first, this started to feel a bit scary. We were turning down additional revenue of £500 per deal or so. And potentially lost a few referrals where we might have got a few extra small deals in the bag. I second-guessed this decision a few times and almost made a U-Turn. Before the results started to show. These ''few extra deals'' for less money were always the deals that turned out to be the ones that required the most customer attention or the customer-faced ''problems''. Essentially on some of these deals, we would be doing 3X the work for the same money as one good paying client. Fast forward coming into almost month three in 2024. And it has proven truly to be the best decision we made. Our clients who had real budgets for real leads and data, were finally getting the attention that they needed and deserved. The time we used to spend negotiating back and forth with lowballers just to get a few hundred quid across the line... Could finally be spent on analysing our client's campaigns and results. Resulting in better service, better conversions and all-around happy clients. Not only this but it resulted in four much larger referrals from those clients of firms who are serious about their market budgeting and fueling their agents with good leads and data. If you truly believe in your product/service rates and can show results. Putting the correct leads and data into your agents is as crucial as the right fuel for your car. If you skimp costs on costs, then you'll always pay more in damages in the end. Stand your ground on your pricing and watch your customer base completely change. If you truly add value then the right customer will pay the rates. We will never be YOUR CHEAP OPTION But will always go above and beyond to be YOUR RIGHT OPTION.
