The Behavioural Architects’ Post

For our October book club, we discussed “The ritual effect: from habit to ritual, harness the surprising power of everyday actions” by Michael Norton. It triggered really interesting conversation about the emotional value of rituals and how this separates them from routine, linking back to an opinion piece from Sian (TBA Founder) who says “routines can be actions that we just need to do, like cleaning or making our bed. But rituals tend to have a greater sense of meaning and purpose to them”. [article link at end of this post] This book gives relatable examples of the emotive power of rituals e.g. Nadal’s ball-bouncing and clothes readjusting routine to optimise performance, and as we head towards Christmas, the huge value we put on invented rituals and traditions that make ‘us, us!’. We would recommend giving it a read! Article link: https://lnkd.in/e47Q76ZR
