Forestry Gave Me Admission—Without It, No University for Me! Many people chase after prestigious and well-known courses, overlooking fields like forestry—a discipline that desperately needs passionate individuals to drive environmental sustainability, combat climate change, and promote afforestation. If I had insisted on studying Human Anatomy and kept trying to gain admission into the university, I might still be struggling due to the intense competition for the course. But choosing forestry changed everything for me! Our environment is our future, and forestry plays a crucial role in preserving ecosystems, ensuring biodiversity, and creating solutions for a greener planet. Yet, it remains underrated. I am unapologetically proud to be a forester, making an impact right from my home country. Forestry chose me, and I chose it back! 🌲 Transforming Forestry for a Sustainable Future 🌍 Delve into the article exploring the evolution and institutional foundations of forestry, rooted in historical contexts and shaping today's forest management practices. The study, led by Austin Himes, identifies how these foundations, often focused on human-centric views of forests, can limit consideration of diverse worldviews and values crucial for combating climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental injustice. Key policy highlights The authors identified a need for transformative change in the traditional paradigm of forest management. They argue that forestry based on relational thinking can help achieve more just, inclusive and sustainable futures.
