Great crowd today at the British Columbia Building Envelope Council (BCBEC) conference in Vancouver! The room was a lot larger than what i expected and filled with very smart and interested minds. I am very grateful to have been invited to discuss a topic that is so front and center in our work at Bosa Properties lately: As governments and municipalities, financial institutions, businesses and investors are embarking on more transparency and compliance to thorough emissions reporting standards, we delved into how end-users demand for better and more livable dwelling is an opportunity for our industry to converge with those broader mandates and goals therefore generating more value for our customers, and hard cost savings and better returns for our businesses. We discussed strategies that we put in place to help convergence of these values by analyzing case studies from various regions and asset classes. We compared how those projects differ in embodied carbon uses and explored a different approach for embodied carbon benchmarking and measurement unit - ie not your typical kgCO2/m2. Sustainable development is not just an environmental imperative—it’s an opportunity for more alignement that creates lasting value for all stakeholders of our industry’s value chain, and most importantly our customers/end-users.

The Green Party unveiled their new manifesto 👀🌳🤗 As the 2024 general election approaches, this document presents a comprehensive vision for the future, focusing on sustainable development, climate action, and social equity. It’s always encouraging to see detailed plans that aim to address some of the pressing issues of our time! 🌿Uniquely, they highlight the necessity of substantial investment to cut carbon emissions across all sectors - housing, industry, agriculture, and transportation - to mitigate the severe financial and human impacts of the climate crisis🌿 Having spoken to some Environmental/Conservation organisations with similar goals, its encouraging to see progress we have made, but we can still do more 💪💚🌲 Regardless of your political views, have a look into their proposals and consider how they might impact our communities and environment 🌱♻️ #2024Election #Sustainability

Here's another shout out to our amazing Climate and Planning Unit (CaPU), who were recognised at the prestigious Essex Housing Awards! 🏆 The team received three nominations for their work helping Essex achieve its Net Zero targets and were highly commended in the Climate Action – Decarbonisation / Retrofit or New Build category. The commendation was for the Essex Embodied Carbon Policy Study, which serves as a crucial evidence base for creating embodied carbon planning policies aimed at reducing emissions in new builds across Essex 🔨. Aligned with Essex Climate Action Commission target for all developments to be carbon positive by 2030, the study offers key recommendations such as: • promoting a circular economy, • material reuse • recycling • It advocates for lean building design • material efficiency • functional resource-efficient design We are incredibly proud of CaPU’s contributions to making Essex a leader in sustainable development. Their work not only supports developers but also ensures that new homes are built with the environment in mind. So once again, a big congratulations to the CaPU team for their efforts! 🌍👏 #EssexHousingAwards #NetZero #ClimateAction #Sustainability #GreenBuilding #ProudMoment
