Here’s how it works: at the core, you’ve got fish—often tilapia or catfish—swimming in tanks. As they grow, the fish produce waste, which is pure gold for farming. That waste is rich in nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus, the very things spirulina needs to thrive. Now, instead of letting that waste go to waste, we use it to feed the spirulina, which is grown in shallow water tanks nearby. #blueatlasproject #fyp #disasterrelief #trending #spirulina #volunteer

Smallholder farmers in Burundi are revitalizing their soils with composting! By transforming everyday organic waste into nutrient-rich compost, they’re boosting soil fertility and bolstering production. Clemance, a local farmer, reports a ten-fold increase in her harvest thanks to this method. Through the support from the PAGRIS project, farmers learn how to layer green and brown waste, livestock manure, and soil to create compost that nourishes their land. Agronomist Nsabimana Virginie explains that turning the compost every 45 days produces healthier soils in just 135 days. By embracing composting, these farmers are increasing their yields and championing sustainable farming practices. Watch this video to learn how composting is transforming farming in Burundi: #SustainableFarming #Composting #SoilHealth #PAGRIS #Burundi #IFDC #OrganicFarming

We are proud to support initiatives that promote sustainable and resilient agricultural practices while developing an agro-ecological value-chain through the Grant for Agroecology Program (GAP) - Challenge Fund. Today, we spotlight one of our current grantees, All Garo Hills Multipurpose Cooperative Society (MPCS) Ltd. It is an apex cooperative of 30 primary cooperatives, established in 2021 in the Garo Hills region. Their remarkable project aims to revitalize cashew plantations by introducing new and improved varieties of cashew saplings - DPP 81 and VENGURLA 7, while also providing supplementary income opportunities for farmers through ginger intercropping. This initiative aligns with the agroecological principles of diversity, recycling, and efficiency, and will positively impact the livelihoods of 1,000 farmers across 1,000 acres of land in the region. By promoting agroecological practices, the project not only supports sustainable agriculture but also contributes to the overall well-being of the local communities. We are excited to support such innovative and impactful projects through the GAP Challenge Fund! Stay tuned as we continue to showcase the remarkable work of our grantees, driving positive change and creating a greener, more equitable future for all. #GAPRegularFund #Agroecology #Grantsupport #GAPFund #Smallfarmers #Farmersgrowth #Agrivaluechains Sheena Kapoor Pramod Sahu Sadique Akhtar KAVITA VERMA Vivek Sinha BIGAN MAHAKUL Sashesh Singh Syed Mufti Alam Rahman
