At DSKL8 we believe actions speak louder than words. When the children we support have been let down by adults who should have kept them safe, it takes exceptional people to earn their trust and change their view of themselves and others. Our role modelling and how we respond during difficult times is crucial. As carers our responses are shaped by our values, awareness of self and the ability to develop an understanding of what the child is communicating through their behaviours. This understanding is borne through empathy and compassion.
We also recognise that, as resilient as we are we all have our limits - especially when supporting children who are constantly testing our commitment. We can only invest in others when we invest in ourselves and it is imperative that we role model self care to the children we support so that they can develop their own resilience. Also, following difficult situations how we reflect and repair is crucial to be able to move forward.
Please get in touch via the DSKL8 page if you're interested in what support and training we can offer.
Well our first week of induction was completed but we couldn’t miss the opportunity for some photos when it came to DSKL8!
Thank you to Ian Guest for delivering a fantastic two-day course, focusing on the understanding of how development and experience can shape young people’s behaviour, changing the way difficult situations are handled, through effective communication and behaviour support to our young people with empathy and compassion.
