Is the Federal Return-to-Office Policy Missing the Mark? Starting today, over 250,000 federal employees are heading back to the office for at least three days a week. This major shift has sparked significant pushback, with protests and frustration from many quarters. The government's new policy has faced a lot of criticism, mainly because they haven’t provided strong reasons for the change. Claims about better collaboration and productivity just don’t seem to add up without solid proof, leading to skepticism and resistance. While the government does have the right to set workplace standards, they’ve missed the mark by not offering a compelling reason for this return-to-office push. For this policy to work, they need to work with employees to create a workspace that truly benefits everyone. Until they do that, the pushback is likely to continue. https://lnkd.in/gh9CJiFW

An interesting development today as 4 large federal government agencies vote to end their mandatory work from the offices rules. This opens up a fascinating new development in not just the #flexibleworking debate, but the national #talentacquisition market more broadly. In last year's Randstad Australia employer branding research almost 6,000 respondents told us that #worklifebalance was the number 1 thing they were looking for in a new employer. At the same time they also said that the most attractive sector in the market for new employment was the public sector, with the Department of Defence being the nation's most attractive employer. Keeping these points in mind, it is logical now to assume that today's development will mean the federal public service will become even more competitive when it comes to attracting the market's top talent.
