This feature's for our friends in sunny California! 🐻 On July 1st, the California Government implemented the "Honest Pricing Law” (SB 478), which made it illegal for businesses to hide fees other than certain government taxes and shipping costs. So if you're a theater located in California, don't fret! As of June, you would have noticed that your ticketing page displays those hidden fees for the convenience of your movie-goers! In 2023, an industry-laden bill was vetoed by Colorado Governor Polis when it was revealed that key consumer protections had been stripped at the behest of special interests. During this 2024 session we returned with a fairer proposal that sailed through the State Assembly and yesterday the Governor signed it into law. Price transparency, refund guarantees, ensuring the price can no longer change (go up) after you have selected it for purchase, and the banning of deceptive websites that mime the venue or box office. This builds on top of the state's current protection of ticketholder rights, where fans can freely use, resell, or give away tickets they purchased by ensuring teams, artists, venues, and Ticketmaster cannot restrict your right to freely transfer your tickets. This is another WIN for consumer protection and fans! Bravo, Team Vision360 Partners and the entire team who worked hard in Colorado this year! https://lnkd.in/gQZsaz9c

#VantageOnFirstpost “Taylor Swift Bill” Signed Into Minnesota Law. What is it? | Vantage with Palki Sharma The U.S. state of Minnesota has signed the "Taylor Swift Bill" into its law. It is called "House File 1989" and gets name from Taylor Swift's birth year. The law aims to protect online ticket buyers. It will require ticket sellers to disclose all fees up front and prohibit resellers from selling more than one copy of a ticket. This policy aims to give ticket buyers more transparency, control, and choices. But Minnesota is not alone. The American state of Maryland and Brazil have similar laws. This move comes as ticketing platform Ticketmaster has been receiving scorn for the past few years. In 2022, Ticketmaster crashed ahead of Taylor Swift’s upcoming 2023 tour. Ticketmaster has been accused of fraudulent tickets, bots, and resellers. Palki Sharma brings you the report. --- Taylor Swift Law | Law | Minnesota | Eras Tour | Concert | Pop Star| Firstpost | World News | Vantage | Palki Sharma #taylorswiftlaw #law #minnesota #erastour #concert #popstar #firstpost #vantageonfirstpost #palkisharma #worldnews

DOJ to Sue Live Nation Entertainment for Antitrust Violations The US Justice Department, along with a coalition of states, is set to file an antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation Entertainment Inc., the parent company of Ticketmaster. This significant legal action will challenge Live Nation's dominance over concert ticket sales. 🔺 Why This Matters: Live Nation, the largest concert promoter in the US, merged with Ticketmaster in 2010. The merger was conditionally approved by the Obama administration, with Live Nation promising not to retaliate against venues that chose other ticketing services. However, subsequent investigations revealed repeated violations of this agreement. 🔺Key Developments: - In 2019, under the Trump administration, a modified settlement was reached, which included external monitoring of Live Nation’s practices. - The Biden administration reopened the probe in 2022 due to ongoing concerns about compliance. - The issue gained widespread attention after Ticketmaster's handling of Taylor Swift's ticket sales, highlighting the impact of monopolistic practices on consumers. 🔺 What’s Next: The lawsuit, expected to be filed in the Southern District of New York, may seek remedies including the potential breakup of Live Nation. This action is part of a broader push by the Biden administration to enforce antitrust laws and promote competition. This move underscores the administration's commitment to curbing monopolistic behaviour and protecting consumer interests. As this case unfolds, it could reshape the landscape of the entertainment and ticketing industry. Bloomberg News. (2024, May 22). Justice Department to seek breakup of Live Nation-Ticketmaster. I recently sat down with my partners, John B. Quinn and Kevin Teruya, to discuss the DOJ's recent antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation and Ticketmaster. We talk about the companies' business model and history with the DOJ, the nature of the DOJ's claims, and the likely twists and turns we will see as that case continues. If you would like a primer on the dispute and issues, I highly recommend giving it a listen.
