It appears that high interest rates are dragging down remodeling, homebuilding, and apartment construction,” said Ken Simonson, [Associated General Contractor]'s chief economist. “But firms working on infrastructure, data centers, renewable energy, and manufacturing projects are continuing to add workers and would like to hire more.” According to the AGC, Chicago's industrial demands are shifting. While traditional residential projects are slowing down, other industries are picking up the requests for new building work. Contractors are looking for ways to maximize their existing workforce while attracting new talent to the trades. Thunder Creek helps construction professionals utilize their existing team members by giving them the power to fuel and service on-site on their own schedule. McCann Industries is the premier dealer for Thunder Creek in the Chicagoland area. For years, they have been a reputable source for fueling and service solutions that allow operators to take control of their fuel and PM programs without the need for a HAZMAT or CDL. If you are looking to increase your uptime, give them a call to find out what they can do for you! https://lnkd.in/gHr9EnnS #mccannindustries #ldjmanufacturing

Tennessee DOT faced rising construction costs while striving. With over 14,000 miles to manage, and rising construction costs, Tennessee DOT the faced a daunting challenge to maintain its top-ranked highway system. Traditional approaches weren't keeping up, prompting a shift to micro surfacing—a cost-effective method aimed at extending pavement life and reducing future repair expenses. By allocating $12 million to micro surfacing contracts covering 500 miles of roads, TDOT took a proactive stance. This preventive maintenance technique seals surfaces, fills cracks, and enhances skid resistance, preserving road quality at a fraction of the cost of reconstruction. As Tennessee continues to innovate in infrastructure maintenance, micro surfacing emerges as a pivotal strategy in sustaining safe, smooth highways amidst economic challenges. https://lnkd.in/gh-shwkV

It's unfortunate news to hear that Wooldridge Contractors, a Surrey-based company with nearly 50 years of history, has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators. What's particularly concerning is that this marks the fourth significant contractor to face such a fate in the last six months. The volatility in the construction industry seems to be on the rise, and it raises questions about the broader challenges and pressures facing companies in this sector. The company's specialization in groundworks, civils, and contract build projects, along with its substantial turnover and profit figures, underscores the severity of the situation. It's troubling to hear that despite their longstanding presence and apparent success, they've reached such a critical point. Moreover, the impact extends beyond Wooldridge Contractors alone, as its sister company, Wooldridge Ecotec, is also facing difficulties, adding another layer to the complexity of the situation. This development prompts us to reflect on the broader implications for the construction industry, from economic pressures to market dynamics and perhaps even systemic issues within the sector. It's a sobering reminder of the challenges many businesses face, even those with a long history and seemingly strong financial standing. I'd be interested to hear others' perspectives on what this trend signifies for the construction industry and how stakeholders might navigate these turbulent times. #constructionindustry #contractors #contractor #volatility #construction #industry #groundworks #civil #recruitment #construction #administrator

A Superintendent in construction is not just a job title—it's a pivotal role that serves as the linchpin of every successful building project. 🏗️🔍 This individual is essentially the project's eyes and ears on the ground, ensuring that every aspect of the build meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. From the moment the blueprints are rolled out to the final touches on a space, the Superintendent is there, overseeing all fieldwork. They ensure that construction practices adhere strictly to the project's specifications and safety protocols, maintaining a clear line of sight on both the big picture and the minute details. 📋🛠️ Their expertise in construction management means they expertly navigate the project from start to finish. Daily, they coordinate the work of various trades, making sure that everyone is aligned and that the work flows smoothly according to a meticulously planned schedule. When unexpected challenges or client-driven changes occur, they're quick to adjust plans and implement solutions that keep the project on track without compromising the schedule or finish. For anyone involved in a buildout, understanding the role of the Superintendent provides reassurance that your project is in capable hands.
