Check out the article published in the June JTO - 'Obesity and orthopaedic surgery' by Harriet Lewis, Alexander Dodds and Mark Bowditch. The article discusses how rising obesity rates will become a growing issue for T&O, what surgeons need to be aware of and how they can plan. The authors state that ‘the use of BMI as a sole criterion to limit access to orthopaedic surgery is not evidence-based and should be challenged.’ Read the article at: https://bit.ly/4bsA8Ex

In 1939, Dr. Campbell made yet another game-changing contribution to the orthopaedic field with his textbook on orthopaedic surgery. This book was later renamed Campbell’s Orthopaedic Surgery. While edited throughout the following years, this textbook is in use today – with the 15th edition scheduled to publish in 2026. #clinicalresearch #orthopaedicresearch #CCFmovinglives #ilovememphis #orthopaedics #memphisdoctor #campbellclinic #orthopaedics #orthopaedicsurgeon #doctor #surgeon #orthopaedicsurgery

Orthopaedic surgery has the potential to transform the lives of individuals who have endured prolonged pain or restricted movement. To make the most of this opportunity, it is crucial to be knowledgeable about the surgical procedure as well as the subsequent healing journey. Here in this guide, we have compiled a list of the top ten questions that you should ask your surgeon before embarking on orthopaedic surgery ↪️bit.ly/4bXfWM9

Did you know❓ • Oedema and pain following lower limb orthopaedic surgery are closely interlinked phenomena that significantly impact patient recovery (Wickline et al., 2023). • Oedema exerts pressure on surrounding tissues and nerve endings, amplifying pain through mechanical and chemical stimulation of nociceptors (Woolf, 2011). • Effective management of post-surgical oedema is therefore crucial to mitigate pain and enhance functional recovery (Moore et al., 2015). I have recently had a manuscript entitled "Bone remodeling after revision total hip arthroplasty for large acetabular defects" published in the Journal of Orthopaedic Research. This study looks at the bone around large acetabular defects, classified as Paprosky 3B, to look for any changes in the shape of the pelvis within the first year after the revision surgery. It is important to monitor these complex cases to see whether the custom-made implants used to treat these defects offer adequate stability in the days beyond the surgery. This can help to detect any signs of implant migration, component loosening and avoid eventual failure of the bone-metal construct. The full publication is available to read here: https://lnkd.in/ePiKkyin #acetabulardefects #paprosky3B #boneremodelling #computationalmodelling

Did you know that computational modeling has a key role in surgical planning for total hip arthroplasty? Despite this, modeling in revision surgery for acetabular defects remains poorly understood. Check out this systematic review in Journal of Orthopaedic Research! #ORSSMC
