This is an article that provides very good practical advice on choosing a nursing home. It discusses how to use Medicare's nursing home compare feature, stating that it is not the end all or be all means of selecting a facility with good quality care. It also points out how important it is to focus on staff turnover, as well as who owns the nursing home. At Rothkoff Law Group, we have a team of knowledgeable Elder Care Coordinators, whose extensive familiarity of area nursing homes will also help to ensure that your loved one gets the best care possible. https://lnkd.in/ecGAmx-q

BSN-RN/DNP Candidate ∘ Palm Beach Atlantic University ∘ Class of 2027∘ Experience In Hospital Volunteering | Health Care
Florida Staffing Ratios In Hospitals I am enrolled in a graduate nursing course called Healthcare Policy and Advocacy. A topic that has been on my mind is nursing issues within hospitals. As of 2024, Florida has no laws about working ratios in hospitals, but only literature has supported that they are mandated for nursing homes. This law can be found in Florida statute, 2013, chapter 400.23. A mandated ratio is important because of the increased workload of nurses and the satisfactory burn rate quality of care. There is a bill that has been called the Safety and Quality Care Act introduced in 2023; a quote from this bill states, “Four patients in medical-surgical units, intermediate care nursery units, acute care psychiatric units, and other specialty care units (GovTrack.us.2023).” California was the first state to implement a nursing ratio mandate to change patient ratios and followed suit in Pennsylvania in June 2023. Hopefully, Florida will have a change to help nurses have a safer working environment and ensure safety and quality care. •GovTrack.us. (2023.). H.R. 2530 — 118th Congress: Secure Border Act of 2023.
