The recent paper by A.Taleb et.al. from Università degli Studi di Bari in #cooperation with CNR IFN, #Italy presents an innovative approach to real-time analysis of fine ash in volcanic plumes using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (#LIBS). The use of self-calibrated LIBS for elemental #analysis offers valuable insights for #volcano monitoring and hazard assessment. Main advantage is that the analysis does not need sample preparation or calibration standards. The results obtained demonstrate the potential for accurate elemental fraction measurements in extreme environments. The method shows also good agreement with literature compositions further supporting its potential for accurate elemental fraction measurements. As an integral part of the LIBS setup our LTB Aryelle 200 played an important role as it offered the scientist a broad spectral range while also maintaining high spectral resolution. *New paper* published in Tectonics. "The geodynamic significance of continental UHP exhumation: New constraints from the Tso Morari Complex, NW Himalaya" In this paper we examine the petrological and geochronological record in ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) eclogites and felsic gneiss. We present a new and precise zircon age of 46.91 ± 0.07 Ma which dates exhumation from UHP conditions. Overlapping ages from other UHP rocks in the NW Himalaya imply a coeval time-frame for the onset of UHP exhumation. Furthermore, our regional synthesis demonstrates a causative link between changes in the subduction dynamics of the India-Asia collision zone at 47-46 Ma and the resulting mid-Eocene plate network reorganization. The onset of UHP exhumation therefore provides a tightly constrained time-stamp significant geodynamic shifts within the orogen and wider plate network.
