Key nutrients that impact mental health include: ▪️Magnesium ▪️Thiamine (Vitamin B1) ▪️Vitamin B6 ▪️Folate ▪️Inositol ▪️Zinc ▪️Vitamin B12 ▪️Omega-3 Additionally, improving gut health through a balanced diet and probiotics can support both mental and physical health. #WorldMentalHealth today, so important to look after our own mental health and be compassionate to others. According to ONS, 1 in 6 UK adults suffer from depression. And women are twice as likely to experience depression than men (Streb et al., 2021). One of the components to support mood is nutrition. Triptophan rich foods can support synthesis of neurotransmitter Serotonin, which impacts on mood. Studies with triptophan rich foods also observed improvement in the quality of sleep, cognition and brain alertness (Jenkins et al., 2016). And a good source of dietary triptophan is oats. Here is a bowl of reindeer porridge I prepared for my children made with HAMLYNS OF SCOTLAND LIMITED, a delicious breakfast, which we have often at home topped with berries, nuts and seeds. So who does not like a bowl of porridge in the colder mornings? #HappyWorldMentalHealthDay on the #WorldPorridgeDay, good combo. #porridge #oats #nutrition #mentalhealth Louise Harley Jean Miller

Which one are you on: 75 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭? By definition, a diet is ‘a special course of food to which a person restricts themselves, either to lose weight or for medical reasons.’ A diet can also be a social media trend, a marketing tactic, a scam, and a mental burden. What could look like a cure-all pill could be one part of a larger story. Before you make the latest meal plan, consider what part of it is about your mental health and what part is about your physical health. No need to have exact percentages, but consider that the two are related, and you might be more deceptive to adopting all sorts of diets because there is a bigger psychological issue at play. 🤔 What are you trying to address exactly? 🤔 Which issue keeps you coming back to diets? 🤔 What relief will give you the greatest peace of mind? Get to the heart of the matter before you jump on the next trend. #Nutrition #Psychology #NutritionalPsychology P.S: Check this article out in case you want to learn more about the 75 Hard vs. Soft Challenge: https://lnkd.in/d39eF7DN.
