Did you know? South Carolina has the 2nd highest rate of senior food insecurity in the U.S. at 10.4%. Since 1999, chronic food insecurity more than tripled in families with adults aged 60 or older. That's approximately 1 in 4 families with older adults living with food insecurity. While more systemic solutions are needed, we recently awarded funding to 9 of MassHousing's developments to increase access to healthy foods through on site farmer's markets and community gardens, including raised beds for seniors and person's with disabilities. In 2022, older Australians were more likely to die with COVID-19 compared to other age groups, while older people (65+) have also been found to be more susceptible to long COVID symptoms.
