It was great to be on the panel with esteemed patient advocacy leaders. Tom Whitehead was outstanding in his approach in moderating the discussion. The panel members stressed that the viability of the CGT business model will improve if we bring patient’s perspectives early in the asset and treatment process designs. From our conversations today at this panel, other keynote presentations, and the state of the industry, it is becoming abundantly clear that we must bring change in how we approach CGT development and launch. Besides gaining an understanding of disease biology and therapeutic potential in early development, we must include considerations such as viability and scalability of the asset at the clinic, patients’ and caregivers’ lifestyle/QOL aligned clinical end points, and efficient manufacturability of the asset. Potential performance along these areas are good predictors of success. While not novel ideas, following through on these is imperative for CGTs. We must understand why we face challenges in incorporating these ideas today. Else, we will continue to struggle to improve patient access and risk the viability of the overall business model. #cellandgenetherapy #Phacilitate
