Poor data sourcing could lead to a number of risks for your company, not to mention the reputation. A lot of preparation goes into gathering the data you need without a tool to do it all for you. Just to name a few; ❌Limited expertise: Relying on generic engines may result in a lack of expertise in certain areas, impacting the depth and quality of the data. ❌Data overload: Generic engines produce a lot of information, leading to an overload of data. ❌Security concerns: Generic engines may not offer the same level of security as specialised engines do, potentially exposing companies. ❌Missed opportunities: There is a possibility of missing out on valuable insights and opportunities. So why take the risk? Make the most out of your research and DM me to find out more about our specialised search engine.

Aspiring Digital Marketing Executive | 📢 SEO, Social Media, Branding & Email Marketing | 👩🏻💻 High-quality leads that convert
Understand your rights under the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) 📜. If you don't already know, in #Singapore 🇸🇬, we have PDPA which gives people the right to disclose their personal information. The reason I felt compelled to talk about this is that I was asked to fill out a job application form before we had a call or interview. So this was very early on in the #hiring stage. I looked at this form and I couldn't help but think, that some of the personal information they're asking for is unnecessary for its purpose- hiring and in their words, "getting to know me better". It contained questionnaires that would normally be asked in the first round of an interview or via call. So I got the consensus that they were trying to save their time, which I completely understand. Hiring someone is a tedious and time-consuming process. However, they were also asking for my full name (as in NRIC), residential address, and birth date. At the bottom, there was a tiny statement saying, "I agree to the company's use of my information for record-keeping" and a signature line. In the end, I gave them: 1. 👩🏻 First and Last Name- because this early in the hiring process, they're not confirming your identity and don't need to do a background check (eg. credit bureau check, etc.). They just need a name to address you by for the first interview. If you were already signing with them, this would probably not be the case because they would need your information to update the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). 2.📍 Region, Singapore- They do not need to know I live on the 24th or 08th floor of XYZ block. I completely removed this information from my resume. I think about all the strangers younger me gave my home address to and it horrifies me 😱. All they need is to know how far my house is from the assigned workplace because for many people convenience will be a deal breaker. For that reason, giving them the region is sufficient. 3. 👶🏻 Birth year- They do not need to know which day and month I was born. They just want to know my age so they get an idea of what stage of life I'm probably in and how that could impact work. If questioned, I'll tell them they do not have my consent to personal data unless they can explain why they need to keep a record of those extra bits of information. Now, I could be wrong. #hiringManagers, feel free to chip in. I think it would be an eye-opening and educational conversation to have. Classification is not only key to developing, training and deploying technology - it is key to effective connectivity and communication when sensitive information, knowledge or wisdom is involved. Overclassification culture is REAL. Here is some good reading on the subject.

Here's why I think overmarking CUI will only get worse over time. The same cultural factors that lead people to overclassify information exist when categorizing Controlled Unclassified Information. This 2021 report analyzes why overclassification occurs. It's obvious that the same factors drive CUI overcategorization. "In short, the incentive structure underlying the current system, in which a multitude of forces pushes in the direction of classification while no force pushes meaningfully in the other direction, virtually ensures that overclassification will occur." 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗳𝘆 - A Culture of Secrecy in Government Agencies "In an agency characterized by a culture of secrecy, classification simply becomes “how we do things”—a manifestation of the culture that in turn perpetuates it." - Fear of Repercussions for Failing to Protect Sensitive Information No government official wants to be responsible for something bad happening because of their decision. In contrast, the harms of overclassification are widespread and less likely to be blamed on a specific official. As a result, officials often lean towards excessive classification to avoid potential risks. - Other Demands on Classifiers' Time and Attention Using default classification saves time and effort, reinforcing a secretive culture in some agencies. This cycle perpetuates excessive classification, solidifying the culture of secrecy. 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 - Ease of Classifying Documents Classifiers face tough decisions requiring careful thought, but busy schedules often lead to hasty choices. Current classification procedures lack safeguards against this situation, allowing officials to classify documents without thoroughly justifying the decision. - Lack of Accountability for Improper Classification Officials risk consequences for not classifying needed documents, but there's little risk in unnecessary classification. Despite threats in executive orders, no classifiers have lost authority or been terminated for overclassification. - Inadequate Training on Proper Classification "When training is provided, its content is often limited. Government officials report that their training has emphasized the need to protect classified information and that they have received little or no training on the limits of their classification authority—including the proper application of agency classification guides. The results are predictable." - No Reward for Challenges to Improper Classification Decisions "Despite being directed to do so by the executive order, agencies do not in fact encourage classification challenges. There are no incentives to challenge improper classification decisions—and strong incentives not to challenge them." Add in the stigma that unclassified info doesn't matter and I don't see changes coming any time soon.

We make friends for one reason or the other and few of those are sharing our troubles and happiness. Now, a friend comes up to you to share an experience he/she had because he/she trusts you not to give out that information to anyone and then you did agree to not give the information to anyone. Unfortunately, you told someone about it and then your friend found out. Imagine how furious the friend is going to be. That act of yours could end that friendship causing that person to never trust you. This brings me to data privacy. As a data analyst when working with data (could be a client’s) you need to consider keeping its privacy either you’re told to or not. If you ever need to share that data seek permission from the owner and be sure that they’re fine with their data getting out. If you share their data or anything you worked on relating to that data without a go ahead then you’ve breach data privacy. This could get you a bad review, no recommendation (trust me recommendation works faster than your cv) and even loss of job. As a data analyst learn data privacy, it will save you from a lot of trouble. #dataanalytics #dataanalyst #dataprivacy #freelance #data
