🌟 Nurturing Connections: The Essence of Sacred Hospitality in Latino Culture 🌟 In the vibrant tapestry of Latino culture, there exists a profound tradition that goes beyond mere hospitality - it's a sacred art form deeply rooted in our heritage: hospitalidad sagrada (sacred hospitality). This cherished practice isn't just about welcoming guests; it's about creating a haven, a safe and brave space where every visitor feels not just accommodated, but truly embraced. ✨ At the heart of sacred hospitality lies a commitment to nurturing connections and fostering a sense of belonging. It's about weaving a tapestry of warmth and kindness, where guests are not just received, but cherished as an integral part of the family. In Latino households, this tradition is passed down through generations, ingrained in the very fabric of our cultural identity. 🌟🌿 But what makes hospitalidad sagrada (sacred hospitality) in Latino culture truly special is its ability to create a sanctuary, a space where guests can be their authentic selves without fear or judgment. It's about celebrating diversity, honoring differences, and cultivating a sense of unity amidst the richness of our cultural mosaic. In a world often marked by uncertainty and division, sacred hospitality (hospitalidad sagrada) serves as a beacon of hope, reminding us of the power of human connection and compassion. 💫 Moreover, this tradition isn't confined to the walls of our homes; it extends to every interaction, every encounter, infusing our communities with a spirit of generosity and camaraderie. Whether it's sharing a meal, lending a listening ear, or offering a helping hand, sacred hospitality is a testament to the resilience and compassion of Latino culture. As we navigate the complexities of the modern world, let us hold fast to the timeless wisdom of sacred hospitality. Let us continue to create spaces where all are welcome, valued, and celebrated for who they are. Together, let us build a world where kindness reigns supreme, and where every guest - be it a friend, a stranger, or a kindred spirit - finds solace, support, and sanctuary. 🌍 #SacredHospitality #HospitalidadSagrada #LatinoCulture #Community #Inclusion #SafeSpace #BraveSpace #Unity #Compassion #CulturalHeritage #ConnectionBuilding

The debate on the proposed initiative at Paola church should be intrinsically linked to the broader context of Maltese society. This context is marked by a strong laissez-faire ethos, where economic pursuits often take precedence, leading to a chaotic intermingling of form and function, and a general loss of balance and order. In such a context, there is a real concern that the initiative might degenerate in the coming years, potentially setting a precedent for transforming other sacred spaces into commercial establishments. It is important to recognize that sacred spaces and eateries serve very different purposes. The plan to upgrade parts of Paola church into a museum is praiseworthy, especially if the content is carefully curated and engaging. However, it would be prudent to locate any associated eatery in a separate building adjacent to the museum to prevent any future dilution of the museum's cultural mission. This arrangement would ensure the sanctity of the museum and the views from the belvedere are preserved, while still offering visitors the option to enjoy them seperately from their refreshments. Incorporating the nearby community center, Każini, into this initiative could also foster greater community engagement and ensure that the project aligns with local values and traditions. Such an approach not only respects the unique societal context of Malta but also promotes a sustainable model that balances economic objectives with cultural preservation. #paolachurch #culture #malta #economy

#Op_ed: #Ashenda: The importance of honoring cultural heritage in its authentic form In his op-ed, Abdisa A. Kalbesa, a medical science student at Edith Cowan University in Australia, discusses the importance of preserving cultural traditions in their authentic form, focusing on the Ashenda festival celebrated by the #Tegaru people. The piece emphasizes the significance of respecting cultural heritage without appropriation or exploitation. Abdisa argues that traditions like Ashenda should be appreciated for their intrinsic value to the communities that practice them, rather than being altered or commercialized. The article concludes by calling for the celebration of cultural diversity while preserving traditions in their original state. Abdisa suggests that this approach allows for a deeper understanding and respect for the cultural identities represented by these practices. https://lnkd.in/emNwk4Mv

Very happy to see the state designation of seven new cultural districts in Chicago (including Paseo Boricua in my beloved home neighborhood of Humboldt Park)! These districts are now eligible to pursue state funding for the preservation of culturally/architecturally significant structures as well as for economic and educational development and other opportunities that will benefit residents. Props to the local organizers and elected officials who made this happen!

The morning of Day One and we’ve already learned so much - especially from Aunty Norma Ingram as our Welcomer to Country - specifically to the land of the Bidigal people of the Eora Nation. Aunty Norma reminded us that for Aboriginal people - just as for PIANC people, water is of crucial cultural importance as is connection! They have cared for this country for 65,000 years - successfully! Yama is the word she gave us to use today - as a greeting, an acknowledgement of another’s deep presence, and an enquiry into their wellbeing. So Yama to all attendees at our booked out PIANC Sydney Conference today and our colleagues back in the office or on site! #PIANC #WATERBORNETRANSPORTINFRASTRUCTURE #alwayswasalwayswillbe

The Carnival in Dominica stands as one of the island's grandest celebrations, deeply embedded in its cultural fabric. Originally rooted in the tradition of masquerade, wherein revelers adorned masks to obscure their identities, Carnival evolved into a vibrant spectacle filled with color, costumes, and the rhythmic pulse of drums. This tradition owes much to the rich tapestry of African influence, where the love for elaborate attire and spirited drumbeats infused the festivities with energy and vitality. As the masquerade celebrations grew in scale and organization, giving rise to a myriad of shows and competitions, the event was officially christened as Carnival. This transformation marked a significant milestone, signifying the maturation and formalization of what had been a grassroots expression of culture into a structured and widely celebrated festival. Carnival in Dominica serves as a testament to the island's heritage and community spirit, drawing locals and visitors alike into its spirited embrace. From its humble origins in masquerade to its present-day extravaganza, Carnival remains a cherished tradition that encapsulates the essence of Dominica's vibrant cultural identity. Events based on local wisdom are gatherings or activities that are organized in alignment with the values, beliefs, and traditions of a particular community or culture. These events celebrate and promote the unique heritage and knowledge that have been passed down through generations. By incorporating local wisdom into events, organizers aim to preserve and promote cultural identity, foster a sense of community, and showcase the rich traditions that define a particular way of life. Such events often involve traditional rituals, ceremonies, performances, crafts, and foods that are reflective of the local culture. In essence, events based on local wisdom serve as a means of honoring and preserving the cultural heritage and values that are deeply rooted in a specific community.
