#NewYorkClimateWeek in September. Who is attending? I am looking forward to participating on #Energy #CleanEnergy #Grid #Utility #DataCentres #EV #HeatPumps #RenewableEnergy #SmartGrid #EnergyMarket #EnergyTransition #CleanAir #BusinessModelInnovation #CleanMobilty #Transport. (Maybe drop me a DM) Climate Week NYC is the largest annual climate event of its kind, bringing together over 600 events and activities across the City of New York – in person, hybrid and online. Big themes :- 1. The New Industrial Revolution – We’re going through a shift that the world hasn’t seen since the start of the 20th century. The shift of the fossil fuel-based society to a green economy will drive a seismic change not just in corporate energy use, our business models, and the skills needed, but also in the way we build, live, and learn. 2. The Energy and Transport Transition – The global energy system and transportation are among the biggest global emitters, and the corporate sector is playing a key role in the push towards the decarbonization of the interrelated systems. But with every curb in the road, new challenges appear, and it’s vital we see them coming so we can prepare for them through a smarter, integrated, net-zero transport-energy nexus. 3. Nature, Food Systems and Health – The power of nature to reduce emissions and restore health to our food systems must be scaled to reserve the grim reality of global warming. The nexus between climate and health are inextricably linked with climate change recognized as the largest public health crisis of our time where success is measured not only on carbon emission reduction but the impact it has on human lives. 4. Leadership and Green Growth - To speed up the transition, we need to finance solutions and technologies at scale – but funders can be hesitant to finance solutions that aren’t scalable yet. To break that deadlock, we’ll be looking at the finance that exists, new models, ways of collaboration between governments and the private sector, and the importance of the transition being fair and just. https://lnkd.in/dw2ZPxEc #climategroup Jacobs National Grid Jonny Page 🌱Fiona Howarth Jan Walstrom Patrick King Doug McMahon PA Consulting Erika H. The #everyweekisclimateweek nomination for coolest person and most likely to solve climate change goes to Henk Rogers. Famous for popularizing the game of Tetris and dedicating his life to climate after a near death experience, Henk Rogers is responsible for Hawaii being committed to 100% renewable energy by 2045 and through the Blue Planet Alliance is facilitating other states and island nations to join the mission. Hawaii already reached 40% renewables and has a plan to reach 100% ahead of schedule by 2040. Listening to Henk Rogers interviewed by Lance Gould, CEO & Founder, Brooklyn Story Lab at Up2Us2023: A Better World is Possible - Climate Week NYC at the New York Society for Ethical Culture, I’m a follower and believer: “The name of this gathering is ‘it’s Up2Us.’ It is, in fact, up to us, and we have to come to that realization. People ask me, ‘Do you have hope?’ And my answer is ‘No, I don’t have hope, I have determination,’ because we are going to get this done. We are going to fix climate change. We are going to fix everything that we need to fix. We are going to put back everything we have stolen from nature and everything that we’ve broken. The vision of The Blue Planet Alliance is to create a world in which humanity and nature live in harmony, full stop. And we’re in the SDGs now, the Sustainable Development Goals, if I have my way, the next ones will be called the Regenerative Development Goals. We are going to fix everything. We are going to give our children and the children of our children, the future generations, a world that we can be proud of, that’s our job.” #blueplanetalliance #climateweeknyc #wecandoit #yeswecan

🔥 🌍 Join us in welcoming Stephen Robert Miller, an esteemed member of the advisory board for #AdaptUnbound 🌍 💧 Stephen delves into the heart of climate adaptation in his groundbreaking new book, "Over the Seawall: Tsunamis, Cyclones, Drought, and the Delusion of Controlling Nature" 🌊 https://lnkd.in/eBmRe9rf In this compelling work, Miller explores the critical intersection of human ingenuity and the stark realities of maladaptation amidst the climate crisis. From Japan's tsunami-ravaged shores to the embattled lands of Bangladesh and the arid landscapes of Arizona, "Over the Seawall" paints a vivid picture of communities grappling with the repercussions of shortsighted decisions and misplaced priorities. As we prepare for the inaugural Adapt Unbound summit, Miller's insights serve as a powerful reminder of the challenges we face and the imperative to prioritise inclusive, community-driven solutions in the fight against climate change. For many years, we've been seeing the impacts of climate change become more frequent and more intense. This year is likely to break even more temperature records, with repercussions all around the world. Which is why, now more than ever, we need to talk about the solutions we have at hand and the need to scale them up quickly and ambitiously, pushing forward the momentum for systemic change. Our new video series, #ClimateActionExplained, does just that. I'm so proud of all the work we did on this campaign as UNDP Climate, bringing together solutions from 12 different countries on 5 different continents with masterful introductions from Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Please watch, like and spread the word. Only together we can win this fight. https://lnkd.in/gwYGqNMU Links to YouTube: Forests: https://lnkd.in/gZfSF92C Adaptation: https://lnkd.in/gZzYShfi Sustainable Energy: https://lnkd.in/gcB8ppNw Youth: https://lnkd.in/gn3Egbkp

Tech evangelist building the future of e-commerce with AI and ML to create a better future for everyone.
This thought-provoking post challenges common beliefs about climate change. I would argue that it has become a luxury belief, only affordable to the wealthy in developed nations. The biggest polluters cause more damage than the rest of the world combined, yet Western elites continue to self-flagellate and berate those who are already convinced. I'd also highlights the impact of nature, such as the Sun and Earth's natural cycles, on our climate. I question our ability to impact the planet's climate. #ClimateChange #Sustainability #Environment

Radical Adaptation Transforming Cities for a Climate Changed World AUTHOR: Brian Stone, Jr., Georgia Institute of Technology DATE PUBLISHED: January 2024 FORMAT: Paperback ISBN: 9781009211154 This book considers the everyday conduits through which climate instability is revealing itself: the storm sewer drain on your street, the powerlines transporting your electricity, the mix of vegetation in your backyard or neighborhood park – these are the pathways through which climate change is most likely to impact your life. For many, these are the last places we expect it to. The first book to establish a framework for climate change adaptation, Stone's aim is to understand how climate change is altering our lives in the present period – this period of transition between the ancient, stable climate of our ancestors and the unfolding, no longer stable climate of our children – and how our cities might adapt to these changes. Stone's concern is with the risks posed by a new environmental regime for which our modes of living are ill-adapted, and with how these modes of living must be altered – radically altered – to persist in a climate changed world. https://lnkd.in/ess88vqy
