Why do I love Mumbai?
I was walking to the airport from my hotel as it was quite close by (around a kilometre) with a trolly bag in my hand. Suddenly an autorickshaw stopped by, asking me if he can drop me. I told him that I wasn’t looking for a ride, and don’t intend to pay for such a short distance. To my astonishment, he said that he is anyways going towards the same direction, and he won’t charge me for it, as he just wanted to help.
Above is a very small example of the spirit of Mumbai, which I have observed during my 15 years stay there, before I moved to Bangalore couple of years back. People still keep asking me, which city I like more, and all I can say is that nobody can match the hunger, enterprising and professional attitude of Mumbai city, anywhere in India atleast. Because you can see it at the grassroot levels. This is a city, where you will hardly see people cutting corners, like the Uber or Ola drivers literally expecting you to beg in front of them to switch on the AC while the ride is on, or the same drivers asking you to cancel the ride and using their services directly or asking for cash instead of payment through the app. I have had a maid in Bangalore, who quit the job, because she was not ready to learn how to open our main door lock with the key.
Many might say or believe that they might have been inconvenienced in a city like Mumbai as well, but the comparison of the professionalism or hunger or enterprising spirit of mumbai compared to any other city in India at the grass root levels is not even close.
Just like this city, the culture of a company is also gauged with the way even a front line or an entry level staff deals with the external world.
