The latest decisions from the Air Convention are out! Last week, the parties to the Air Convention made several decisions that will affect our future health and the environment in all of Europe and North America. Most importantly, it was decided to launch a revision of the current Protocol to Abate Acidification, Eutrophication and Ground-level Ozone. It was also decided that the revision process will consider possibilities to include targets on methane. Methane is a multieffect gas that affects ground-level ozone levels as well as radiative forcing. It thereby affects grop growth, human health, as well as climate change. The revision process will also consider black carbon emissions, which affect human health and climate change. We can survive climate change. We cannot survive the Bioaccumulation of PFAS and other toxic chemicals. We must ban the use of these chemicals and pesticides, immediately. We are facing an extinction-level event, due to the pollution we have put into the environment. We are headed for 100% Male sperm sterility by 2040, and that is assuming a best case scenario. 58,000 contaminated sites are just the tip of the iceberg. PFAS and C-8 types of chemicals have been found in every species on earth.

Last week EPA issued its MCL drinking water standard for 6 PFAS compounds, along with a promise of funding assistance. We now will be talking of nanograms. We know, too, that EPA is working on PFAS standards for biosolids. In my substack article I express concern that the apparent urgency to regulate PFAS might result in barriers to use of biosolids products for adaptive solutions to communities threatened by climate change and ecosystem disturbance. https://lnkd.in/exTVN4d3

A new study from the UNC Institute for the Environment, Boston University School of Public Health, and Environmental Defense Fund finds that oil and gas flaring pollution results in: - $7.4 billion in health damages - 700+ premature deaths - 73,000 childhood asthma exacerbations annually “This practice wreaks havoc on our climate, worsens quality of life and creates more health risks for people who live near this activity. 📣 Despite stringent efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, #California is the largest emitter of sulfuryl fluoride in the USA. Sulfuryl fluoride (SO2F2) is a synthetic pesticide and a potent greenhouse gas that is accumulating in the global atmosphere. California has the largest SO2F2 emissions among all U.S. states, with the highest emissions from southern coastal California (Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties). 👨⚕️ Apart from the climate-warming effect, there are public health and safety concerns surrounding the use of SO2F2 for fumigation.
