The competitive nature of sports brings all together. Regardless of the background we originate from. As it relates to the sport of rugby there’s never been a better time to grow the sport in America and globally too. The 2023 figures paint a positive picture for community rugby with the sport now played by 8.46 million players across 132 national member unions, an increase of 11% over the 2022 levels. Emerging rugby nations and women and girls are the major drivers of new growth for the game, according to the Rugby World Cup. The National Rugby Football League is evolving rugby to shape the future of the sport internationally and in the U.S. As a truly global year-round premium professional sport with an evenly split male-female demographic, rugby has strong appeal and huge market potential in America. The NRFL is positioned to be the preeminent sport & entertainment rugby league globally by showcasing the best athletes on the pitch, utilizing world-class stadiums, and creating unparalleled content 365 days a year to the biggest sports audience in the world. This is not just a chance to create a new league - it’s a chance to create a whole new idea in American culture. We believe rugby is an idea whose time has come in the U.S. - a sport that is right in line with values like authenticity, sportsmanship, inclusion, community. The NRFL’s foundation and ownership will be rooted in these values. Rugby is played in over 120 countries with 877 million global followers and 9.1 million men, women and children regularly playing the game. Getting bashed in the breasts while playing your favourite sport is not okay. The fact that there is really still nothing for female athletes to wear on the field to protect their bits and fits their form is the reason Zena Sport was born. I’m so incredibly proud of the the team for the consistent effort they have put into building this business. If you asked me to start a business that would take 4 years of pure research before I made a single cent I would laugh and politely decline but the team at Zena Sport did just that. I am not built to be an entrepreneur. I am however built to help entrepreneurs and I couldn’t be more excited that 3 months ago Brad Johnson Donna Johnson Paul Johnston asked me to come onboard and advise them on their business growth strategy. It’s not easy starting a challenger brand. It’s even harder to start a product in a untapped category with very low awareness. But even harder than all of that? Designing a brand new product and category concept with a supply chain that is still not built to support the fit of a female body. No cookie cutter moulds. No re sizing a men’s version and making it smaller. No plastic and absolutely no time for anything that isn’t the perfect fit for a female athlete. Brad told me yesterday we are finally ready for the olympics. Through the years they have pushed the barriers in female performance gear. They have learnt the ins and outs of female injury prevention. They have researched and researched and then researched some more. They have built their team around them and now? Wake up media outlets in Australia .... why is it that when news stories are run in sport, male accomplishments are almost always mentioned first? What do women need to do, to be mentioned first? Day 1, Australian Olympic trials and 3 of Australia's top talent, make the teams in almost recording breaking time, Ariarne Titmus almost breaks her own world record in the 400m freestyle, Kaylee McKeown in the 200m IM breaks a new Commonwealth Record and Emma McKeon books her spot in the 100m Fly - marks the first woman to qualify for the team aged in her 30s since Lisa Curry in 1992. However, the lead off story on Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) by a female journalist, was that Sam Short and Elijha Winnington put on a great head-to-head race to qualify for the 400m. Is that more news-worthy than what Titmus, McKeown and McKeon had accomplished before the men's events had event started? How can we influence change here .... let's treat our competitors fairly and recognise achievements rather than always just defaulting to men first. #biasinsport #mediaequality #changethenarrative

Breaking is DEI... In light of all the anti-DEI noise that largely mischaracterizes what DEI means. Breaking is a great example of the evolution of knowledge and practice. (I get it is also about market share and reaching to a younger following and all the business aspects. Frankly, I don't care about the Olympic committee's reasoning because the outcome includes talent, culture, and knowledge many of us are unaware of. And before you critique the Olympics for weakening athletic competition, only five sports have been constant features of the Olympics since 1896. Diversity: Break dancing, or ‘breaking’, originated from diverse urban communities. By including it in the Olympics, the committee acknowledges and respects this rich cultural diversity. Equity: Breaking is an art form that doesn’t require expensive equipment or facilities, making it accessible to a wide range of individuals regardless of their socioeconomic status. Its inclusion in the Olympics promotes equity by giving these athletes a platform to compete on a global stage. Inclusion: The addition of breaking to the Olympic games sends a strong message of inclusion. It shows that all forms of athletic expression, no matter how unconventional they may seem, have a place in this prestigious event. So, not only does the inclusion of breaking in the Olympics diversify the types of athletic disciplines represented, but it also promotes equity by leveling the playing field, and fosters inclusion by embracing different forms of cultural expression. This decision by the Olympic committee shines a light on a largely underrepresented form of expression, giving voice to a community and culture that many people may not be familiar with. It’s a significant step towards a more inclusive, equitable, and diverse global sporting event.

Effective sports administration is crucial for any sport to flourish

🏀"A rising tide lifts all boats"... 🏀 What a fantastic testimony for British Basketball and its the women who do it again! 🏆 Congratulations Vanja Cernivec Shivani Laddha and the entire London Lions team. 👏 With the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) women's team also clinching a trophy before their male counterparts, it brings to light a pivotal issue: Despite the financial hurdles involved for rightsholders supporting two teams and acknowledging the commercial disparities between men's and women's sports, the necessity for the sports ecosystem to embrace equity is undeniable. There is a pressing need to ensure equal opportunities, broadcast coverage, and sponsorship backing for both men's and women's sports, especially when women are proving to be equally, if not more, successful. These achievements highlight the vast talent, commitment, and commercial potential in women's sports, signalling a crucial moment for not only rights holders but the entire sports ecosystem—including governments, brands, agencies, fans, broadcasters and the media—to adopt an equitable approach in allocating opportunities, resources, and visibility to women's sports.
