Clarity never happen overnight. When I began my job search, I was open to various fields, feeling like I didn’t have a clear path. I went from aspiring to become an OAP to studying history with a touch of International Relations, where I discovered a passion for African History. Eventually, I transitioned into sales and business management, captivated by the processes involved. I’ve come to realize that clarity comes by doing. As we engage in different experiences, we uncover what truly resonates with us, shaping our path forward. "What experiences have helped you find clarity in your career journey? I have found friendships at work. Popular opinion says not to make friends at work. To be fair, many who uphold this opinion have had their share of relationships gone sour; either due to individual mindsets, perceptions of the workplace, the work environment itself, or the people. But then, do you remember Chimamanda Adichie's "The Danger of the Single Story"? https://lnkd.in/drqXRy8G *** Monday, 15th January 2024, marked 4 years since I started my career journey in the corporate world, and it has been an impactful one because of the people I have worked with at every point to date. Shout out to everyone I have had the privilege to work with so far! 🥰 But really, can work friendships be key for career advancement? How can you build one? Find out in this insightful post by Propel - https://lnkd.in/dPVn7p8D I would love to read your thoughts and experiences in the comment section. What questions should you ask when evaluating your career? Check out this fantastic list! #2 really stood out to me: "How do I tap into my purpose?" When you decide to change careers, the important people in your life have a stake in what you do, so it’s important to factor them in to your decision process. The challenge is to figure out how to honor your responsibilities to them without allowing yourself to be defined exclusively by what they feel you ought to be. One way to enable yourself to think creatively about what next is to adopt the following two-pronged approach: https://buff.ly/422eILB #careers #careerchange

A few weeks ago, I had the incredible opportunity to attend a thought-provoking event focused on the realities of the job market for Latinx individuals in the tech industry. The speakers shared invaluable advice that truly resonated with me and I'm thrilled to pass along some key takeaways: Be Curious: Embrace curiosity as a compass for growth. It's the catalyst for new opportunities and learning experiences. Leverage Your Network: Surround yourself with a supportive community. Lean on them for guidance and mentorship. Remember, a "no" can often lead to unexpected doors opening in the future. Embrace Change: Don't shy away from trying new things. It's where innovation and personal growth thrive. Allyship Matters: What defines a good ally? Ownership, trust, understanding, and diverse perspectives. Allies aren't perfect, but they're there to support, advocate, and learn alongside you. Authenticity at Work: Finding your authentic voice takes time. Speak up, find comfort zones, and gradually expand them. Balance is key. Balancing Act: Choosing where to invest your energy is crucial. Trust your abilities when you decide to go all-in. Career Transitions: Interviews are a two-way street. It's not just about job titles but the value, skills, and unique perspectives you bring to the table. I believe that we are not confined by job titles. Each one of us is a multifaceted individual capable of contributing in various ways. The thing I am taking away most from that event is to not hesitate to ask questions and continue to seek opportunities. After all, growth happens when we step out of our comfort zones. The insights shared at this event deeply resonated with me and I hope they inspire you too. Lastly, I want to thank Katelan Martinez, MS, MPA for extending an invite to this event. I had a lot of fun.

In the realm of career dynamics, it's imperative to maintain a discerning perspective. While dedicating oneself diligently to a role is commendable, it's equally vital to prioritize personal growth and well-being. It's crucial to recognize that professional affiliations are transactional in nature; companies exist to profit, not to foster familial bonds... If an opportunity arises that promises advancement and alignment with one's aspirations, seizing it shouldn't evoke a sense of guilt. Remember, in the intricate dance of career progression, one must navigate with astuteness, ensuring that each step serves their ultimate objectives and ambitions...

"I think an embarrassing amount of how well you do [in your career] has to do with attitude. Do you work hard? Are you more can-do than nay-saying? Do you show up on time? Do you do what you said you were going to do? Can you work on a team? Those things seem so simple, and there’s so many things you can’t control in your work life, but you can control your attitude." Our CEO, Andy Jassy, sat down for an exclusive interview with LinkedIn’s CEO, Ryan Roslansky, to talk about his unique career journey, including his top 3 pieces of career advice. You definitely want to check it out! ⬇️ What career advice would you give to someone?
