Case study highlights support for Energy from Waste Plant A 30 MW waste-wood-fired power plant in the north of England suffered regular blockages in each of the discharge chutes from the fluidised bed boiler caused by oversize ash lumps and non-ferrous tramp materials. These blockages were causing frequent unscheduled stoppages as well as presenting a health and safety risk to the plant operators, but Greenbank Terotech had the answer. Since the end of the 1980s, Greenbank has installed UCC Environmental’s ash handling technology into the large coal fired power generation sector, but more recently, the equipment has found a new home at several of the UK’s newly built Energy from Waste plants. As highlighted in a new online case study, Greenbank approached the customer and proposed the addition of a UCC Excen 460 crusher into each of the discharge chute legs to eliminate the blockage problem, and you can find out more here.

A week full of good news, first from the UK and now from the US! 🌊🌊🌊 U.S. Representatives Nanette Barragan (CA-44) and Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) have introduced the Marine Energy Technologies Acceleration Act, which aims to invest $1 billion to advance marine energy toward full-scale commercialisation. This landmark legislation seeks to harness the power of waves, tides, currents, and other water-based resources to provide clean, renewable energy. “Nearly 40 percent of the U.S. population lives in coastal communities where marine energy resources are abundant and offer tremendous potential to power our communities with clean, renewable energy, including California,” said Representative Barragán. “With the Marine Energy Technologies Acceleration Act, we can usher in an emerging clean energy resource to help our nation and our communities meet clean energy and decarbonization goals, reduce pollution, and create high-paying jobs.” We at Wavepiston are happy to see the change in mindset from policy makers, favouring marine energy. https://wavepiston.dk/ #waveenergy #desalination #marineenergytechnologiesact

A World First: With Hoffmann Green, the VALOREM Group Announces the Pouring of a Wind Turbine Foundation Made Exclusively Clinker-free Decarbonated Concrete - The VALOREM Group, a pioneering independent producer of green energy in France, and Hoffmann Green Cement Technologies, an industrial leader dedicated to decarbonizing the construction sector through innovative, clinker-free cement, have announced the creation of the world’s first wind turbine foundation using clinker-free decarbonized concrete, incorporating green concrete. At the Plaine des Moulins wind farm in Jazeneuil (Vienne), VALOREM Group partnered with Hoffmann Green to accomplish a groundbreaking feat: constructing a wind turbine foundation utilizing 630 m³ of decarbonized green concrete. This innovation led to a 33-ton reduction in CO₂ emissions, a 32% decrease compared to traditional concrete, without altering the existing construction methods. This week, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released a preview of their upcoming report, shedding light on the transformative potential of industrial decarbonisation across key manufacturing subsectors, including cement and concrete. Cement is the second most-used substance on Earth after water, making its #decarbonisation crucial for addressing climate change. The report highlights four pillars of industrial decarbonisation: ⚡ Energy Efficiency 🔋 Industrial Electrification 🌱 Low-Carbon Fuels, Feedstocks, and Energy Sources (LCFFES) 🏭 Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) Leilac’s innovative technology aligns with these pillars, offering solutions to address all major decarbonisation pathways: ✔️ Fuel switching to alternative fuels, electrification and renewable energy readiness. ✔️ Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs) adoption by enabling low-carbon calcined clays. ✔️ Carbon capture (CCUS) with the Leilac technology purpose-made for the capture of unavoidable CO2 from the cement and lime industries. ✔️ Supporting smarter and more stable renewably powered grids through grid integration and load-balancing. By enabling flexible decarbonisation pathways, Leilac aims to drive impactful change in the cement sector—a significant contributor to global CO2 emissions. Our technology directly aligns with the U.S. DOE's goals for near-zero emissions in cement and concrete production. Together, we’re paving the way for scalable, cost-effective solutions that transform industry and deliver the infrastructure of tomorrow.
