This back-to-school season, sustainability is top of mind for students making purchases in preparation for the academic year. In fact, 71% of U.S. students surveyed say it's important that items they buy for the return to class be sustainable or environmentally friendly, according to a new study from the National Retail Federation. #backtoschool #sustainability #ecofriendly

🌱 Sustainability in Retail: Bridging the gap to customers 🌱 We aren't the "sustainability police," and our insights come purely from the perceptions of our online mystery shoppers. We're focused on understanding how customers relate to your sustainability efforts and whether these efforts make an impact. Some of our Top Learnings: 1. Nobody is Perfect: Customers understand that sustainability is a journey. What matters most is taking them along for the ride. Be honest, authentic, and transparent. Do you make the effort to share your journey with them? 2. Translate It: Sustainability can be complex and varied. How do you translate sustainability for your brand? Clearly communicate what sustainability means to you and how you demonstrate it. 3. Education: As the brand/retailer, you're in the driver's seat. It's your job to educate your customers about the impact you create, why it matters, and how it's achieved. What measures have you taken to help your customers understand your efforts? 4. Visualise Your Efforts: Make sustainability simple and digestible. Brands that received high ratings for customer relatability used clear icons on their websites and product pages to explain specific credentials and benefits. What makes your product more sustainable than others? 5. Pro-tip: Talk about the packaging your customers can expect—don't make it a surprise once they receive it! Clear communication about sustainable packaging can further enhance your credibility and trust. Below is an example of a beauty brand that's nailing it. This is a crucial factor for turning shoppers into loyal customers. Remember, you don't need to be perfect—we are all on a journey!

I had the pleasure of presenting at the Circular Industries Talks of the LDE Centre for Sustainability on Wednesday, June 12, where I discussed "The Future of Circular Online Shopping: Opportunities and Challenges". During the #webinar, I shared insights from a study conducted with Nicole Stofberg, focusing on the circular behavior of Dutch consumers and the necessary steps for (online) retailers to embrace a more circular approach. Key Takeaways: - A significant majority of Dutch people aspire to a climate-neutral society. - Promoting circular consumption behavior is crucial for sustainable e-commerce. - There's vast growth potential in various retail sectors through the adoption of R-strategies. - Action is required in all phases of a product lifecycle to achieve circularity: design, production, use, and end-of-life. - Marketers play a pivotal role in driving the transition to circular consumption. Advocating cultural sustainability Fashion Designer, Couturier , Curator, Creative life Coach , Visionery and explorer
In today’s rapidly changing world, sustainability is more than just a trend—it's a necessity. As the founder of a fashion brand that prides itself on sustainable practices, I firmly believe that instilling the values of sustainability in children from a young age is crucial for the future of our planet. Children are like sponges, absorbing information and values from their surroundings. By teaching them about sustainability early on, we’re planting seeds that will grow into lifelong habits. This early education can encompass everything from understanding where clothes come from to recognizing the impact of waste and the importance of recycling. Fashion is one of the most influential industries, yet it’s also one of the most polluting. By educating kids about sustainable fashion, we can help them appreciate the value of quality over quantity. They learn to choose brands that prioritize ethical practices, fair labor, and eco-friendly materials. This awareness can lead to a significant shift in demand, encouraging more brands to adopt sustainable practices. Here are 4 practical ways to teach kids about Sustainability 1. Lead by Example: Children learn by watching adults. By practicing sustainable habits ourselves, such as reducing waste, recycling, and choosing eco-friendly products, we set a powerful example. 2. Educational Activities: Incorporate sustainability into school curriculums through projects that focus on recycling, energy conservation, and understanding the lifecycle of products. Interactive activities can make learning fun and impactful. 3. Storytelling: Share stories about the journey of sustainable fashion, from the growth of organic cotton to the creation of eco-friendly fabrics. Highlight the efforts of individuals and brands making a difference. 4. Hands-On Experience: Encourage kids to participate in activities like gardening, composting, and DIY upcycling projects. These hands-on experiences can reinforce the importance of sustainability in a tangible way. At my recent fashion show, I walked with my daughter to highlight the importance of passing these values to the next generation. It was a proud moment, reminding me that our efforts today will shape the world she inherits tomorrow.
