Do you know someone with a #knitting machine or a community of tech-savvy fiber artists? I've been particularly obsessed with #3DPrinting lately and created a parametric CAD model for producing knitting machine needle selectors without knowing where to share this resource to get it into the hands of those who may need or want it. It's not the usual fair for GitHub but I've posted the #FreeCAD model file and a quick start guide in a repo: https://lnkd.in/gRwcARBJ I also posted a quick video guide to YouTube on how to use the model to generate STL files since FreeCAD can be finicky: https://lnkd.in/gYkvkPhU This started as practice using open-source CAD software to model and print a replacement needle selector for a friend's knitting machine and quickly evolved into a quest to create a single model to fit any flatbed knitting machine. I had a lot of fun working on this and was surprised by the parallels in thinking about 3D models and software in terms of their parameters. I'll also give some credit to #GoogleGemini and #YouTube, both of which I have leaned on heavily in the month since I received my 3D printer. I'm handy with a search engine but conversational learning and guidance like these tools offer is truly incredible. If you know anyone that could benefit from the existence of this oddly-specific parametric knitting machine needle selector model, please send the repo their way.

The tutorial also provides more detail on increasing component strength using strategic placement of long strand carbon tow, in conjunction with the short strand chopped tow.
