Every exhibit is a story. When you take a moment to experience it, that exhibit story becomes part of yours. It’s neat to think about. Try this. Scroll through your camera roll to a photo you took at a museum or gallery and spend some time with the memories. Who was with you? What did you eat that day? What else do you remember because of that picture? You may have a surprisingly detailed recollection. Funny thing is, you likely don’t remember the actual exhibit story in this photograph. We are here to help with that. Capption keeps a history of exhibits you scan so you can reread every story and remember details you forgot, or learn things you may have missed. Having those details would ignite even more great memories. Making an exhibit story part of ours is how art moves us, how science teaches us. Go out and add to your story! We often talk about ‘archiving’ records on site, but to truly consider them safe, there are some archival standards we need to adhere to. Vibrations from a variety of sources can have a detrimental impact on museum collections. Protecting museum collections from vibrations due to human activity and building construction is a recognized concern. In this article, WJE engineers Arne Johnson and Mohamed ElBatanouny, PhD, SE provide a number of case studies, including the recent NASCAR Street Race event where cars roared around the Art Institute of Chicago at speeds of nearly 150 mph. Each case study summarizes some of the factors that should be considered in museum facility operations to help reduce the risks to museum collections from these sources of vibrations. NYC World Trade Center Visit Depending on your age, you probably have memories of where you were and what you were doing on the morning of 9/11/2001. However, those memories, as is only natural, have probably faded, unless maybe you were actually there that day. I had an opportunity to visit the 9/11 museum last weekend in NYC. And my memoires had in fact faded.  The museum resurrected those memories and all that that event entailed: how individuals responded – whether first responders, people in the buildings, the passengers and crew who made sure flight 93 did not reach its target – the physical destruction and deaths, and so much more. It was so powerful. It is a remarkable remembrance of a terrible time and loss, and a testament to what can be the best (and worst) aspects of humankind. And sadly, the world continues to suffer from some of the worst nature of humankind.
