“Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see.” When I was at H&E, there was one thing they always said: “We’ll never sell out.” I can still visualize leadership repeatedly saying this at our regional sales meetings. It was something employees believed, something we thought defined the company. But as of last week, H&E sold their rental operations to United Rentals. I can’t say I’m surprised. In fact, I saw this coming last year and told several of my friends and customers it was only a matter of time. Business decisions often have a way of contradicting the promises made along the way. This isn’t about being right—it’s about understanding the industry and recognizing that no matter what’s said, every company has its price. At the end of the day, strategy and market pressures usually win out over words. For me, this move is a reminder to always stay ahead, trust your instincts, and focus on building relationships and expertise that will last—because companies, leadership, and strategies will always evolve. First work ✈️ 2025: Kicked things off with a quick day trip to sunny Scottsdale. Highlight of the day? Seeing this amazing group! Team Carter, your smiling faces filled my bucket! I can hardly believe we’re already halfway through January. Strategizing with my team this week, we found ourselves discussing upcoming milestones, and we were suddenly in June! The year is primed to fly by. My intentions for the team this year? 1. Expectations matter, accountability matters more. 2. With growth comes responsibility. Above all, we will remain humble and kind. How you transition a property matters. We will be remembered as the team that was helpful, gracious and prepared. People come first, that extends to those who may not be in the Kairoi canoe today. 3. We will be experts in our markets. We will strive to always be learning. 4. We will be proactive. Whether it’s market conditions, property ops or planning the next resident event. 5. We will grow. As individuals and as a team. We’ll pour into our own development so we can be the best leaders for our teams, clients and residents. 6. We will have fun. I was recently asked how we achieved high levels of performance at NTAG Carolina. It all starts with taking care of our number one asset, the Sailor. Without the Sailor, missions do not get accomplished. As my time as the "Skipper" of NTAG Carolina comes to an end, I want to share our recipe for success: - Mentor, coach, and develop your team - Listen to your team's concerns and take relentless action to remove barriers - Stay positive, your team will feed off your energy - Challenge your team to continuously improve, don't let them get complacent - Take their ideas and act on them, publicly giving credit to those whose ideas you implement fosters a culture of innovation - Find the right incentives to move the needle, the best source for this is your personnel - our current incentive program is extremely popular - The little things matter more than you think, personally thanking individuals for their accomplishments has a huge impact on morale - Celebrate the wins with your team, no matter how small they are - Be transparent and honest - Be present, approachable, and receptive - your team likes to engage with you Ultimately, building a culture where your team feels understood, valued, respected, and supported is crucial. Stay energetic, build their confidence, make their work experience enjoyable, and challenge them to be better than yesterday. This will create a winning team mentality that produces phenomenal performance!

Day 14 - Week 2- 2025 Race for The Corner Office.....Terminal Manager Story... I’ve had my fair share of lessons, but one moment stands out. Many years ago, Scott and I were two young men working for Gardewine, both eyeing the ultimate prize: the Terminal Manager role... Scott, had university education and years of experience working on the dock and in dispatch, he was the best contender for any Terminal Managers Role over me , I was reporting to him...Later, we became equals, racing side by side for that coveted positions as Operations Managers. When the time came, we both interviewed for the same role..... I believed I had what it took to lead, but the decision was made—Scott was chosen as the Terminal Manager. At the time, I challenged the decision :) . ....Fast forward a decade, and I couldn’t agree more with that choice. Scott still is a phenomenal Terminal Manager and now in Thunder bay , far better suited for that role than I could have been... The company made the right call, and I’m proud of his accomplishments. As for me, I chalked it up as a learning moment, got back on my feet, and continued chasing my own path.. I did not get the corner office but i was fortunate enough to own the building.. Sometimes, the roles we don’t get shape us more than the ones we do....Keep pushing forward, embrace the lessons, and trust the process... #CareerGrowth #LessonsLearned #Resilience #Leadership
