FOB would like to say Happy Birthday to the US Army! US Army Birthday History: The American revolutionary war started on April 1775. The fighters that enlisted to fight against the British forces were militia groups paid for and equipped by the colonies, but without any organization, command, or strategy. Different groups fought under different banners which showed a lack of unity on the part of the US against their common enemy. When a battle was approaching in Boston in June, it became clear that Congress should find a solution for the militia strategy, which wasn't working. After the Committee of the Whole reached an agreement, the American Continental Army was created, with George Washington as its commander. This allowed riflemen to enlist and serve in the army, and a committee was appointed to create the rules and regulations for the said army. The first branch of the American military to be founded on that day was the Infantry. Over the year, the U.S. Army has significantly expanded its forces. The first Army service training program for new recruits took place between 1777 and 1778. In 1787, with the signing of the United States Constitution, it became defined that the acting President of the United States also acts as the Commander-in-Chief of the army. With the United States Declaration of Independence only having been enacted on July 4, 1776, this means that the American army is older than the country it serves. #USArmy #militaryhistory #fob

News Update -- As some of you may know, my great-great uncle Jesse Ball Moore was improperly executed by the US Army in 1917 in connection with the Houston Riot of 1917. In November 2023, after 106 years of injustice by the US government (which won't bring anyone back to life as my uncle was murdered at the young age of 27 years old), the US Military overturned the convictions of 110 Buffalo Soldiers that were in the 24th Infantry Regiment. Last November, the military gave all falsely-tried and accused soldiers honorable discharges from the Army to help address how their own government denied them due process without the possibility of appeal. They were represented by one person who wasn't even a lawyer in a gross miscarriage of justice. The largest court martial in US history resulted in overhauling the military court process -- requiring the implementation of a process of appeal and military leaders in Washington to sign off on an execution before a sentence is carried out. But again, too late for uncle Jesse who was the 7th person executed the next day after the death sentence was issued. Here's an update - I'm pleased to share that the Army replaced the headstones of soldiers like my great-great uncle Jesse Ball Moore. This happened last week in a ceremony at the gravesite where Uncle Jesse is buried. Here's a news story with more background and context. I encourage you to watch it. https://lnkd.in/dgQrF5gW CBS US Army #veterans #military #usarmy #usarmedforces #justice #blm #civilrights #courts #history #blackhistorymonth #bhm #blacklivesmatter #americanhistory #usa #americans #unitedstatesofamerica #unitedstates #america #cbsnews

History in 60 Seconds: What do you know about Roman Legions? The Roman legion was the backbone of the powerful Roman army for centuries. Here's a breakdown of some key points: 1) Elite Infantry: For most of the Roman Empire's history, legions were the elite heavy infantry of the Roman army. 2) Citizen Soldiers: Early legions were composed entirely of Roman citizens. After reforms by Marius in 107 BC, citizenship wasn't a requirement, but it remained a prestigious role. 3) Size and Organization: The size of legions varied over time, but typically consisted of around 5,200 men during the height of the Empire. They were structured into smaller units called cohorts, centuries, and contubernia. For comparison, a US Army brigade consists of a few battalions and anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000 soldiers. A colonel is generally in command. Video: Historic Vids

This line of reasoning deserves more credit than most realize. A near peer fight will have detrimental consequences, effects, technological unseen consequences, and require more human capital than many wars before. This is why our training and troop readiness must continue to improve and remain resilient throughout the entire DoD. #traintolead #traintowin
Combat isn’t war. America hasn’t been to war since World War II, when the entire American population and industry were mobilized. The US Army, and our military, have achieved the unthinkable through GWOT combat; but all out war is a different game. To discuss how the US Army is preparing for the next fight and the potential for war against a near peer adversary, I traveled to the Pentagon to sit down with Sergeant Major of the Army Mike Weimer to define professional warfighting and the importance of an all volunteer force. We broke down the art and science relationship between commissioned and non-commissioned officers. The SMA shared how his experience in the Special Forces shadows prepared him for the limelight of the SMA role. And we talked about the future, including his vision for solving the recruiting challenge, how warfare is evolving from the kill chain to the kill web, how he’s planning to retain the right people, and how the integration of Special Operations and the regular Army is more important now than ever. Episode 143 is live!
