Super League Greece League actively participated at the European Leagues' General Assembly in London https://lnkd.in/dm9y3zxq Super League Greece actively participated at the 48th General Assembly of the European Leagues, which was held in London on April 25 and 26, under the auspices of the Premier League. Super League Greece, which is a founding member of the European Leagues, actively participates in all processes, sending a message of openness, cooperation and understanding with its institutional partners. The General Assembly of the European Leagues was attended by representatives from the 40 European football member Leagues, high-ranking commissioners and executives from UEFA, European Club Association (ECA) and other confederations, as well as other relevant football authorities. Super League Greece was represented by the president Minas Lysandrou, in the panel discussion, on security of sports facilities and events in Europe. Some of the points highlighted at the General Assembly, were the following: It is of fundamental importance for the European football family, for the benefit of Sport, not only for the Leagues, but also for the fans, the consolidation of a strong union of the European Leagues, in the concept of the European competitive model. The principle of the importance of national championships and the promotion of teams in European Club Competitions, through domestic championships, is an element which remains non-negotiable. Every sports fan wants to see the team they support stand out in their country's national league and win participation in European Club Competitions. Spain are European champions once more. Their most recent crown is European Championship trophy number four, and they’ve now won the men's competition more times than any other nation in history. You can’t say they didn’t deserve it. Spain won all seven games at Euro 2024, becoming the first European nation to win seven matches at a major international tournament (Euros/World Cup) and just the second overall, along with Brazil at the 2002 World Cup. Along the way, Luis De La Fuente’s side scored 15 goals at Euro 2024, the most by a nation in a single tournament in Euros history. And so, as the dust settles on another major tournament, we pick our team of the tournament with the help of Opta data. You won’t be surprised to see plenty of Spanish players feature. For those who remain engaged to #China, it will be no surprise the #DavisCup is considering moving its finals there in 2026. Given the sheer size of its #consumer market, China remains an important market for international sports rights holder and their brand partners. Importantly if you follow the money, outside the #MIddleEast, it remains one of the most financially rewarding destinations with accommodating #government partners and #promoters, that see the value of major events from a global awareness and domestic #economic impact perspective & are still prepared to stump up decent #hosting fees, especially for Tier 1 rights. Also, the move makes sense, given that Tennis in China is going through a boom, with the current plethora of top Chinese players. (AP Photo/Aaron Doster)The ATP Tour tournaments in Canada and Cincinnati will increase to 12 days each next season and events in Dallas, Doha and Munich will be upgraded to the 500 level as part of changes for the 2025 men’s tennis schedule. The National Bank Open in Canada and the Cincinnati Open follow the Masters 1000 tournaments in Rome, Madrid and Shanghai in stretching to 12 days. That other trio all expanded in 2023. It means that as of next season, seven of the nine ATP Masters events will last nearly two weeks instead of one. Other changes include moving the Hamburg Open from July to May, shifting the event in Los Cabos from February to July and switching the Cordoba Open to Mallorca, Spain, as part of the lead-in to Wimbledon. The Estoril tournament is no longer on the calendar, but the tour will “try to find a solution for the highly regarded event to take place in 2025, and beyond.” “Next season will see yet more enhancements to the ATP Tour’s premium product across a streamlined calendar,” ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said. “This is central to everything we’ve been building under OneVision, which ultimately aims to create the best possible experience for our fans. Last season we broke new ground, welcoming a record five million fans on site across our events. Can Ireland ever produce a #Wimbledon champion? Sports funding in Ireland is dominated by team sports - what can we do when it comes to the development of tennis players? 'On June 11th, Serbia's Novak Djokovic won his 23rd Grand Slam defeating Norway's Casper Ruud in the Roland Garros final. In contrast, Ireland has yet to have a player in the final rounds of any Grand Slam events,' write Garry Cahill and Aine MacNamara from the School of Health and Human Performance, the DCU Faculty of Science and Health. 'Djokovic and Ruud come from countries with less than seven million people so why can't Ireland with a comparable population, produce tennis players with the ability to compete against the best of the world? In our research, we are interested in understanding why some nations struggle to produce tennis stars so that we can identify potential strategies to assist countries like Ireland in nurturing tennis talent.' (S)painful Decision to be made? Following defeat in the European Championships 2024 Final to Spain last night, Gareth Southgate gave a pitch side interview to ITV’s Gabriele Marcotti where he said the following: "I think England are in a really good position in terms of the experiences they've got now. The age of the squad, you know, most of this squad are going to be around not only for the World Cup but the next Euros as well so, um, you know, there's a lot to look forward to but you know, that’s not, you know, at this moment, is not any consolation." Linguistic analysis can be applied to any aspect of life. What someone doesn’t say can often be more important than what someone does say. In this interview, notably absent is the pronoun, ‘we,’ which indicates unity and cooperation. Gareth Southgate had two key opportunities in which he linguistically distanced himself from this, once where he thinks ‘England’ are in a good place and secondly where he references the experiences ‘they’ve’ had. Conversely, the only commitment we see from the England Manager is via the pronoun ‘I’ in respect to that which he, ‘thinks.’    The shortest answer is the best combined with commitment.   Linguistically for now it appears that Gareth Southgate’s distancing from the squad has taken him a step closer towards the door. #England #FootballAssociation #EuropeanChampionships2024 #EnglandManager #GarethSouthgate
