Tony’s retort in "The Sopranos" reflects a real-world truth: retirement can feel like stepping off the ice into an uncertain future. Non-criminals face no broken fingers, but the psychological shift is no less daunting. Income loss can be managed with strategic financial planning, yet the loss of purpose and relevance often stings the most. Did you know? Studies show that retirees who engage in volunteer work or hobbies often report higher satisfaction and sense of purpose. As we skate towards retirement, how do we ensure our relevance and joy off the rink? #RetirementPlanning #LifeAfterWork #FindingPurpose

Most of the time our choices are not a reflection of what we think, what we believe, or what we decide they come as an effect of our atmosphere on us. Effective decision-making can only flow from a place of choice. If we keep our atmosphere positive, energetic, and liveable. The decisions we make will pass through the funnel of thoughts that align with the expected outcomes. At any stage of life be it your college, your corporate job, or your retirement phase creating a conducive environment for the people around you is the best contribution you can make as an Individual. #choicesmatter #decisionmaking #positivemindset #positivechange #values #workculturematters #thoughts #decisions #beliefsystem

Why more often than not do we bend to instant gratification? Many individuals struggle with feeling disconnected from their future selves. This disconnect often arises from an inability to envision or emotionally engage with what lies ahead. The present holds a palpable, vivid allure, while the future appears distant. Predictions notwithstanding, the unknown nature of tomorrow renders it less tangible and compelling than the here and now. Consequently, we tend to prioritize our current desires over those of our future selves. This tendency may elucidate why many individuals procrastinate when it comes to saving for retirement or unforeseen emergencies. The immediate gratification of indulging in present experiences often takes precedence over diligently preparing for tomorrow. Give us a call if you want to make sure your goals and values are aligned for the long run.

Does this sound familiar? "It’s time to retire, but I am afraid of feeling unproductive. Of course, time off always sounds good, but even when it's just a few days off in a row, I start feeling lazy, lounging in my PJs all day, and moving in slow motion. I'm not sure I’m psychologically ready to give up feeling valuable and productive. I know I should be excited for retirement, but it feels scary to me." The first part of a holistic retirement plan begins with identifying values and priorities. 💫 Step 1: Examine your VALUES. Start by looking at a list of values. Choose your top 20. Then narrow down to 10. Then 5. Then 3. Free resource here: https://lnkd.in/g_SbnRu7 💫 Step 2: Examine your PRIORITIES. Use Dr. Demartini's 13 Questions to help you. (Dr. Demartini calls these "values" - but I refer to them as "priorities.") Free resource here: https://lnkd.in/gnWQJHDa 💫 STEP 3: Using your current VALUES + PRIORITIES, you can begin to build your routine, lifestyle, and activities in alignment with your most authentic self. >> What are your top values and priorities? And - how have they changed over the course of your life? #FinancialPlanning #HolisticPlanning #RetirementPlanning #BreneBrown #TheValuesFactor #BabyBoomers #AgingAdults #MentalHealth #HealthyRoutine

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 It's often observed that individuals in high positions exude a certain arrogance, a trait seemingly justified by their authority and influence. Yet, as retirement looms, this arrogance often transforms into humility. One wonders why this shift isn't more consistent throughout their career. If only people realized sooner that genuine human connections and a humble approach enrich both their personal and professional lives, they might find a smoother transition and more meaningful engagements even after their formal roles conclude. During their tenure, many individuals make decisions rooted in the power dynamics of their positions. This often blinds them to the benefits of building lasting, positive relationships. It's ironic how, once they no longer hold that authoritative power, they begin to see the value of humility. Engaging sincerely with colleagues and subordinates before retirement not only paves the way for a more respected legacy but also ensures they are not isolated in their later years. Being consistently respectful and approachable can turn potential adversaries into lifelong allies. When these retired individuals venture into business, they face the stark reality of shifting from a buyer to a seller. The humility they exhibit then might seem a sudden change, but had it been a part of their professional demeanor all along, this transition could have been less jarring. Consistent humility can bridge the gap between their past influence and their present endeavors, ensuring that they are valued for their wisdom rather than merely tolerated out of obligation. #Transformation #Humility #Retirement #Arrogance #Authority #Engagement #Legacy #Connections #Respect #Transition #Business #Seller #Buyer #Wisdom #Power #Influence #Humanity #Professionalism #Approachability #Consistency #Irony

𝐈𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬… ✔Why she started Booming Encore. ✔How it has evolved over the past 10 years and what she learned. ✔How people are changing their views of retirement. ✔Which topics are popular among readers. ✔Why she is taking on and writing about the ’𝟔𝟎 𝐁𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝟔𝟎 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭’ ✔The latest book Susan contributed to, 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧. ✔And more. 𝐀 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧’𝐬 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬… 💥We try and cover many different aspects of it (retirement). Everything from health to encore careers to aging in place, We also try and tackle some of the tougher conversations such as ageism and how do you cope with the aspects of getting older and changing your own attitude and perspective around it. 💥I think we all need to figure out and be comfortable with our own selves and our own view of aging, rather than necessarily accepting what's being pushed on us. 💥The thought process around the whole life cycle itself, I think is starting to shift. So that's one of the, the changes. But the other thing is, and I want to go back to the financial aspect because I do not believe people are taking the time to actually really think about what they want to do in retirement in order to then have the financial means to do these things. 💥You have to actually do that hard work to try and figure out what you want to do in retirement, and then what are the financial means that you need to, to have, and then is it going to be a traditional retirement, or do you plan on working part-time in retirement in order to supplement your cashflow do you not plan on retiring at all? These are some of the conversations I do not necessarily believe are happening very frequently. A one size fits all retirement, I think, is completely now in the past, and everybody's interests and desires and needs are different. We're all more complicated than that. 💥From a societal perspective, we have promoted retirement as this sort of finish line, you work, you're going to get to the finish line, and then you're going to go off and it's going to be-, the gates are going to open, and it's just going to be absolutely wonderful. And so, when people cross that finish line to actually then put their hand up and go, it is not quite the heaven that you had ideally told me it was going to be. 💥Everybody's like, oh, you're retired, you're so lucky. I wish I was you. To actually say, it's not really that great, I'm not having a good time. It takes some courage to actually admit that. So, it can be quite an emotional exercise to go through when you're doing some of that deep thinking. #retirement #retirementplanning #longevity #longevityplanning #nonfinancial
