Mentoring is essential for enhancing diversity and equity in the biomedical workforce by providing underrepresented individuals with tailored support, resources, and guidance, creating pathways for their professional development and success. A mentorship framework fosters an inclusive environment, addresses systemic barriers, and promotes equal opportunities, ultimately contributing to a more representative and equitable biomedical community. #NRMNmentoringMatters #NationalMentoringMonth National Research Mentoring Network The National Institutes of Health

So, two things happened last week that not only blew my mind but also fueled my fire! 1️⃣ I went to a personal appointment at the hospital (not an alright hun post, I’m sound! 😂). During the usual chit chat, I was asked about my plans for the rest of the day. I replied that I was delivering neuroinclusion training, and both highly qualified medical professionals asked, “What’s that?” 😯 This blew my mind!! 2️⃣ I was talking to a client, and during our conversation, they said: “Well, only some of our staff will need training since not everyone will work with neurodifferent clients…” WAIT, WHAT?! 😳 Top blown off AGAIN! 🤯 Clearly, despite recent progress, we STILL have a LOOONNNG way to go! The fact is—people still don’t even know what neuroinclusion is, let alone understand why it’s essential and how it benefits everyone! Even people in the medical profession! We only know what we know in any given moment, right? Which is fair enough! #YouCannotKnowWhatYouDontKnow Therefore, we need to change this—we need to educate! We can’t achieve true neuroinclusion if we cherry-pick who knows or learns about it! #KnowledgeIsPower But with budgets being cut ✂️ across the board and time being the greatest commodity for all—how? Well, Inclusive Minds UK has the answer launching in the new year! Continuous, affordable, accessible training for ALL! To learn more and become a founding member of our new project set to change the face of educating neuroinclusive practices, get in touch now! Join us in our mission to create a fully neuroinclusive future and make it the norm today! Ensure EVERYONE on your team understands the importance of neuroinclusion and can implement it! We are #StrongerTogether, and it’s only in unity that we can make a difference. #Neuroinclusion #InclusiveMindsUK #EducationForAll #MakeADifference #JoinTheMovement

Continuing the Get to Know our Fellow's series! 👋 We asked fellows a few questions to get a better understanding of their life experience - how their fellowship has made them look at the world and their own communities differently. We'll be sharing their responses over the next few weeks. If you're interesting in becoming a fellow or learning more about the Fund for Global Health, visit our website. Meet fellow Vivien Wambugu Provide a brief description of yourself. (EX: what you're studying, your career, future career plans, fellowship responsibilities). I am currently working as a Postgraduate Associate at the Yale School of Medicine. Describe one significant thing you’ve learned throughout your fellowship. As an advocate and having the opportunity to participate in the background work necessary to influence foreign aid operations, I am certainly learning a lot. One significant thing I am learning is the importance of civilian advocacy in ensuring and empowering the "right" individuals to sit at the table in order to achieve change that significantly benefits and elevates those we strive to serve and uplift. Civil society and civilian voices remain the backbone and should/must continue to be empowered. Reflecting on your experience as a fellow, describe how your perspective on international primary healthcare has changed. How has your personal experience with the US primary healthcare system shaped your perspective? Although I did my master's in Global Health, and many of my passions and efforts fall into this field, I am constantly learning ways to advance health equity for all, especially those who are underserved and disempowered. When thinking about the benefits of PEPFAR services being integrated into primary healthcare settings, my understanding of the importance of holistic primary care in international and US healthcare systems is heightened. My personal experience with the US healthcare system is that it seems to be becoming more and more specialized and siloed rather than working to achieve quality comprehensive care. I think we, those who participate, lead, or influence the US healthcare system, can learn a lot from international settings and initiatives like the PEPFAR primary care integration goal, where primary care works to address all aspects of health, including prevention, promotion, and education, work in a collaborative and integrative manner. #healthcare #globalhealth #advocacy

Celebrating 5 years of research on social care innovation 🌟 On 2 October 2024, the Supporting Adult Social Care Innovation (SASCI) project, led by CPEC's Dr Juliette Malley, marked its five-year journey with an event that brought together social care innovators, researchers, policymakers, and people with lived experience. The event reflected on the project's findings and charted the path forward for innovation in adult social care. Over the last five years, SASCI, a collaborative effort between CPEC at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), King's College London, and the University of York, tackled a key challenge: why do innovations in adult social care struggle to sustain, scale, and spread? 🔍 The research, funded by the ESRC: Economic and Social Research Council, aimed to identify pathways to sustainable innovation that can improve lives. 💡 During the event, Dr. Malley used the metaphor of innovation as a river, filled with rocks (barriers), headwinds, and thunderstorms, illustrating that while the journey is challenging, it's possible to navigate through collaboration, co-production, and adaptive strategies. Panel discussions highlighted the role of leadership and empowering those receiving care, while breakout sessions explored how to overcome financial constraints and foster an inclusive innovation community. 💛 As we look to the future, one thing is clear: innovation in social care must be driven by human-centered approaches, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous learning. The SASCI project has laid the foundation for a resilient network of social care innovators—now it's time to build on that momentum. Key takeaway: Innovation is a collaborative and unpredictable journey, but together we can foster meaningful change. Let's continue to work towards a more sustainable, adaptive, and inclusive social care system.💡 🔗 Read the full story and discover the insights from SASCI's five-year journey: https://lnkd.in/e_gJN8CR #SocialCareInnovation #SASCI #AdultSocialCare #Innovation #Collaboration #FutureOfCare Joanna Marczak Valentina Zigante Carl Purcell Yvonne Birks Shared Lives Plus Think Local Act Personal (TLAP)

Meet Kim Nguyen! In this week's blog, our Post-Bacc Health alumna shares how the program helped her as a career changer. "I wanted extra guidance from advisers who had an extensive amount of knowledge about applying to allied health graduate schools. This was my priority when deciding to apply to the program. I also appreciated how easy it was to enroll in the classes I needed due to having priority enrollment." Read her story ➡️ https://bit.ly/3Xt4F1j #StudentStories #PostBacc
