I am happy to share that I have completed my Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Applied and Computational Mathematics at Florida State University! My dissertation focused on developing numerical methods and optimal boundary conditions for enhancing electroconvection. I want to express my sincere gratitude to my PhD supervisor, Dr. Mark Sussman, my co-supervisor, Dr. Kourosh Shoele, and the other committee members. This six-year journey has come to an end, and I am looking forward to taking on new challenges in the future. #PhD #FSUMath

PhD Thursday Talk 🎓 "Algorithms are the silent architects of our digital existence" - this is how the outstanding doctoral student of our faculty, Mihrije Kadriu, began her presentation during the PhD Thursday Talk session. In a scientific manner, she presented the history of algorithms, from antiquity to today, and their application in our daily lives. Algorithms also represent a testament to human prowess and innovation. From ancient civilizations to the digital age, algorithms have undergone a significant evolution. This evolutionary trajectory has been fundamentally driven by the imperative to adapt and respond to the evolving needs and challenges of societal structures. Through a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach, there exists the opportunity to leverage the transformative capacity of algorithms in a public interest. Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to The Simons Laufer Mathematical Sciences Institute (SLMath), formerly known as the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI), for honoring me with the title of Viterbi named postdoctoral researcher, which they deem suitable for a researcher after completing a doctorate each year. SLMath is recognized as one of the world's leading centers for collaborative research in mathematics. For the Fall 2023 term, they have included programs on "Market and Mechanism Design" and "Algorithms, Fairness, and Equity." These programs offer the opportunity to work alongside Nobel laureate Economics professors, mathematicians, and computer scientists.
