Fresh off my first GreenBiz event 🌱 —an incredible gathering that brings together sustainability professionals dedicated to the well-being of both people and the planet. I had the pleasure of connecting with so many inspiring peers committed to creating meaningful change.
Here are some insights that resonated with me:
Continuous learning: None of us have all the answers, and the field of sustainability is constantly evolving. From getting stakeholder buy-in, addressing data complexities, enhancing transparency, fostering employee engagement, and navigating regulatory changes, the journey is ongoing. Everyone is learning and adapting.
Collective effort: Sustainability cannot be the responsibility of just one person. It requires alignment from leadership, integration into company culture, and alignment with company values and purpose. Find partners and allies throughout the business and bring them along your journey and they will be your biggest advocates.
The power of listening and influence: Building sustainable success involves a delicate balance of listening to the top priorities of your stakeholders, understanding their perspectives, and influencing them positively. Essentials of organizational change-- so simple but often overlooked. By demonstrating how sustainability initiatives align with their needs and how you can ultimately help them, we can foster trust and allyship.
All while making it fun, of course.
Finally, hearing the passion from emerging sustainability leaders like Wawa Gatheru, Leah Thomas, and Zahra Biabani solidified my confidence in the future of our industry. 🙌
