Last week, a 19-year-old tragically lost his life due to a broken seat at an unlicensed amusement park in Halkidiki, Greece. His brother recalled watching in horror as their seat detached mid-ride. While the park owner was arrested, the operator remains at large. This incident highlights the ongoing safety issues in amusement parks across Greece and the Balkans, where regulations are often ignored, leading to preventable tragedies. https://lnkd.in/ew2QCvzx There are events which shape us as individuals which we can recall and there are those which we didn’t personally experience but nonetheless have a profound impact on us. With this in mind I wanted to highlight the amazing work of Fang Li, a Chinese film director, who released a documentary film yesterday in China that will shortly be available elsewhere in the world called “The Sinking of The Lisbon Maru”. This film release is the culmination of 8 years work focused on revealing the story behind the sinking of the Japanese war ship “The Lisbon Maru”. The trailer for this film is attached to this post. The reason that this film is significant to my family and myself is that my grandfather Christos Pavlou was a British Royal Scots soldier on board The Lisbon Maru when this incident occurred. The Sinking of The Lisbon Maru film unveils the long-buried truth of the 1942 sinking of the "Lisbon Maru," an armed Japanese cargo ship that participated in World War II. In October 1942, this vessel transported more than 1,800 British prisoners of war (POWs) from Hong Kong towards Japan, without bearing a sign indicating it was carrying POWs. This was in violation of the Geneva Convention. After being struck by a torpedo from a nearby US submarine, Japanese soldiers, instead of trying to save the POWs, battened them down below deck, left them to drown, and even shot at them, leading to the deaths of 828 prisoners. This story has been left untold for 80 years. For context, those who perished on The Lisbon Maru amounted to over half of those who died on The Titanic when that ship sank. When the ship went down off the coast of East China's Zhejiang Province, 384 POWs were fortunately rescued by local Chinese fishermen, who pulled them from the water at risk of their own life before they were eventually recaptured by the Japanese after a day of freedom on nearby Chinese islands. To create this film Fang's team searched for the wreckage of the ship and held interviews with families of the soldiers on board in order to uncover the full details of this tragedy. The numerous face to face interviews, together with the historical scene animations in the documentary, help shed a light on a forgotten chapter in history. “We not only finished a film but also guarded a history," said Fang. "This cruel historical event has been buried under the sea and denied by the Japanese military for 82 years, and I hope that together we can share it with the world." This post is to highlight the fantastic work of Fang Li in bringing this tragic WW2 incident to life so that it isn’t forgotten. It is also to honour my grandad Christos (who I am named after). If he hadn’t made it off the ship (with the assistance of the Chinese fishermen) and then hung in there as a POW in Japan for 3 years then I wouldn’t be around today to share this story with you all. #lisbonmaru

I make memes for living and design to show-off multiple skills on my cv (in this capitalistic world of course) | Linkedin Bottom voice
Platforms no longer decide what's popular the audience does let me tell you a very interesting story which explains this phenomena so in Auckland in New Zealand there's a subculture where young people ride around town with small speakers called Sirens blaring music now these speakers are designed to project sound as effectively and loudly as possible in India you might have seen these in emergency vehicles political rallies or Street vendors but in Auckland people from various neighborhoods they form these bike Crews and engage in music battles these are basically called siren jams before what would happen is local music producers in these siren jams would create music for years and upload it on YouTube One such music producer was this guy called Josh one of the days after school he produced a siren beat called LAX : https://lnkd.in/dQxTz6sf this video has pulled 1 billion views by now in fact the song even caught the attention of Jason Duno who remakes it into the very famous song Savage Love which I'm sure you all must have heard not just this even the Korean boy band BTS created a remix of it. The immense popularity of LAX shows the democratizing power of YouTube it shows how an unknown producer from a neighborhood in ockland can quickly rise to the top of global music charts all a function of the love from the audience this was just one example there are so many more such stories you know a viral YouTube video called the back rooms is being turned into a movie by the production company behind Oscar winning film Moonlight and HBO's Euphoria because of how much popularity it gained on YouTube in fact if you look at Bhuvan Bam, mostly sane, kusha kapila they're all creators and now have their own TV shows 📺 and movies like I said the audience decides what's pop culture right now. Do you remember when commercials were not one-off campaigns but series which lasted months, even years? In the UK we had the Oxo family, the BT campaign with Maureen Lipman, and even the If You See Sid spots for British Gas. These were memorable, long-lasting, and this soap-opera effect means you actually put the volume UP to hear the ad - whereas many people channel hop, or put the volume down. I was listening to Pete Donaldson’s amazing Abroad In Japan podcast a few years ago and he described an incredible and surreal commercial campaign which ran for 11 episodes from 2017. It follows a couple that loves Sakeru Gummy and their conflict with a mysterious moustached man tearing off a strip of Long Sakeru Gummy as seductive jazz music plays in the background. It’s basically about an obsession with Long Long Man and anything of great length - especially his 15 inches of Long Sakeru Gummy. You can see where this is going can’t you? Yes, size apparently DOES matter. It’s crazy and surreal - just what you’d expect from the Japanese - but it makes me think that an interesting narrative filled with plot twists, plus a healthy amount of innuendo, making it half-commercial, half-soap opera just makes it perfect for brand recognition and promote the new product release. The commercial owes its name to the now-infamous catchphrase, which was repeated way too many times in the commercial by an obnoxious voice. The catchphrase is heard seemingly at random throughout the commercial series that it is nearly impossible to ignore. It’s almost a revival of the cheesy jingle which was in many ad campaigns of yesteryear. It does show the power of a consistent musical identity and the brand equity it retains. Campaign: Long Long Man Product: Sakeru Gummy vs. Long Sakeru Gummy Client: UHA Mikakuto Co. Ltd Agency: Hakuhodo (Tokyo) Director: MITSUAKI IMURA Have a look at the whole campaign - trust me, you’ll stay to the end! Can you think of any other campaigns where the music has just grabbed your attention when watching a commercial? You literally had to look up at the screen when you heard it? https://lnkd.in/ej_Wrfs4 #musicsupervision #musicinads #musicforcommercials #tvads #tvcommercials #musicpublishing #musicsupervisors #productionmusic #librarymusic
