In today’s world where various industry experts converge to take business to new heights, it makes sense that world-class conferences should reflect the age old adage that ‘variety is the spice of life’ https://lnkd.in/g85eJqmY

Don’t waste conference content. Share your learnings instead. Millions of big ideas are thrown around at conferences, but a lot of that wisdom doesn’t go beyond the room. If you attend a cool conference session where you learnt something that absolutely blew your mind, post about that. Don’t just post a photo of yourself at the event and thank the organisers. Tell us what you learnt there. If you keynote or present conferences, repurpose your speech notes and talking points into posts and videos. That way, you can amplify your message. It’s the difference between speaking to 100 people in the conference room, or tens of thousands on social media. How do you make content at a conference? What works and what doesn’t? Comment below. The dark truth about attending big conferences 😑 In 6 days, #LondonTechWeek will open, and I will participate in it. Do you know what thoughts come to my mind? It is exciting and worth visiting from the point of view of obtaining new information. However, there is another side of the coin – participation in such an event creates a lot of stress and tension. I don't like such things because it's very noisy and chaotic, and there are thousands of people, some short, meaningless communications when you forget the names of the people you just met there. From the network's point of view, it was always tough for me because you feel like an ant in the middle of a metropolis, and you have to have a particular type of character when you are ready for this kind of event, as I think. So, I am attending it to take a piece of pie with the new information, but on the other hand, I am very well aware that I will need to accumulate my energy to hold on during these days. And how do you feel about such noisy big events?

Let's talk about conferences I'm curious what people expect and hope for when they go to a conference? I've been involved in presenting, organising and participating at conferences and I know I have a bias toward changing the conventional conference model. I've put together a brief summary of some of the conferences I've contributed to along with a few learnings and insights on what I think makes a conference experience, engaging, memorable and meaningful. What conference experiences would you like to have? How do you think conferences can be improved? It's time to re-imagine how we do conferences. https://lnkd.in/gV5UkxbJ #ConferenceExperience #ProfessionalDevelopment #MaverickMinds

Most conferences are boring 😒. You see the same faces speaking over and over again *yawn* very dull! 🥱 But here's the good news: we fixed that problem. With ProductCamp Amsterdam, that will never happen because it's an unconference. Here are the main differences between unconference and regular conferences: 1. You decide on the conference's topics, not the conference organizers. 2. Zero chance of seeing the same faces speaking, because the conferences attendees will be the ones doing the talking. 3. Less theoretical talks and fluff, because you'll mostly hear from people still in the trenches. 4. There will be enough opportunity to network because most of the sessions will be highly interactive, so you will get to know many people during the 'talks', making chatting afterwards easier. 5. No conference talks by people because they are sponsoring the event. If you're done passively listening and want to join in, then please come to ProductCamp Amsterdam on Sunday November 17th. How does an unconference work: 1. All the participants propose sessions they are willing to host or would like to attend in different formats. 2. Everyone votes on the sessions they'd like to attend. 3. The sessions are divided based on the popularity of the different meeting rooms. 4. We make a program for the day on the spot, and everyone chooses which session they'll attend. So, do we know what ProductCamp Amsterdam 2024 will be about? Nope, we don't. That's all in your hands, and that's precisely what makes it awesome. So don't be sad when you see another conference with the same faces, attend an unconference and choose to be awesome instead! We can tell you there will be one amazing keynote speaker, who will be announced soon. The rest of the magic will be up to you.

Have you ever looked at a $3,800 conference ticket and wondered, “Is this worth it?” Chances are, you have, and it’s the right question to be asking. If you're contemplating investing thousands of dollars on a ticket, transportation, and lodging, not to mention taking time away from the office for a few days, we agree — it should be worthwhile! BAM Senior Account Manager, Briana Trulear, recently attended ViVE 2024 in Los Angeles and took the time upon returning to share her insights on how to maximize ROI at conferences. Check out her blog post, “Conference Attendance 101: How Founders Can Maximize Their Time and Impact” where she unpacks actionable strategies tailored for founders looking to make the most out of their conference experiences.

As I sit as the #AfricaProsperityDialogues and the halls begin to look empty, I ask myself the following questions: 🗨How can we keep our conferences within allocated times advertised? 🗨 Why do conference participants and delegates leave the events before the official closing? 🗨 How can we make conferences concise with mimimum panelists driving home the intended message? 🗨 How can we begin to measure the effects/impact of these beautiful and *#insightful* conferences? Meanwhile, I love how such conferences are able to connect participants to opportunities- human resources, opening our minds to issues we hardly think about in the midst of our daily duties.

When is the programme for a conference or roundtable or gathering or confab really ready? When it first appears online? Rarely. When it is published in a print conference magazine? Closer but you wouldn't want to plan your not-to-be-missed sessions by it. When you arrive at the venue and see the running order on a screen? Admittedly, you're getting warmer but even then, there are traffic snarl-ups and room mix-ups which mean that even you can't bet the house on the TV screen agenda being accurate. So when then can you get the really, nailed-down accurate itinerary? After the event, of course. I have been reminded of that truism of conference organising as we reach the final furlong of preparing the agenda for the Irish Roundtable in the Magic City which is earmarked for Birmingham, AL on 9-10 October 2024. Every time, over the past few weeks, that I have signed off on the agenda and rushed it to our graphic art impresario, I have had to beat a retreat and make more changes. All that said, I am happy to state, hand on heart, that the final agenda, or a version thereof, will go live on Friday (btw there is already a first version online). My holdouts are a cracking business speaker from Chicago and a certain elected official (senior, with chain, but no names). Both are keen to be there but neither is a Padre Pio with the gift of bilocation so we may not get them to the Magic City this time out. For now, though I am buoyed by the support of our panel chairs including Will Blackburn (below), a young AI start-up star from Birmingham who moved to Atlanta for a while in search of opportunity but decided to return home "to be part of the solution". Well put. I have the same attitude to our work in Belfast - I just didn't have the correct words to convey our mission.
