The Executive Development Network are delighted with the Government's reform package to boost apprenticeships! 🎉 From 1st April, apprentices aged 21 and under will be fully funded for small employers. The new measures will also allow larger businesses to transfer a greater proportion of unused apprenticeship levy funds. Commenting on the news, Mike Worley, Managing Director at HIT Training said: “Increasing the level of funds that large levy-paying employers can transfer to other businesses from 25% to 50% will give small employers further opportunities to build a skilled workforce. These extra funds will go towards apprentice training and support individuals into meaningful and rewarding employment. HIT has championed extra support for small businesses since the levy was launched, and we implore the government to extend this further by funding apprenticeships for all ages in small businesses.” To read the full details, click here: https://bit.ly/3IKn8OU

🤔 Assumption: Degree Apprenticeships are too expensive for businesses! 🙂 Fact: Businesses who pay the apprenticeship levy (wage bill over £3 million) are able to use their levy funds to cover the tuition costs of their degree apprentices. 🤔 Assumption: I’m a small business with a smaller wage bill, which means apprenticeships are not an option for me. 🙂 Fact: Employers who don’t pay the apprenticeship levy can still access funding support (up to 95%) to enable them to upskill an existing staff member or take on a new learner as a degree apprentice. 😀 Bonus fact: Levy paying employers can transfer some of their unspent levy funds to other businesses to help with the cost. 🌟 Sheffield Hallam’s National Centre of Excellence for Degree Apprenticeships supports close to 3,000 degree apprentices studying across 40 disciplines and subjects - more than any other provider in the UK! 🌟 We have just been nominated for the Educate North 2024 Apprenticeship Award, reflecting the work which has been done by NCEDA to promote the value of HDAs for learners of all ages and from different backgrounds. 💡 Want to find out more? Key Messages from Plenary 1 at the AAC…. Graham Hasting-Evans NOCN told us that the Construction Apprenticeship Taskforce wants to see more Level 2 apprenticeship provision and opportunities to meet their reall skills needs and gaps, with adequate funding in place. Joseph Lennox CHA and Clara O’Donnell joined us representing apprentices, they told us they want to see a bigger focus on enrichment and pastoral support by providers, whilst encouraging employers to support providers in improving CIAG in schools specifically in relation to apprenticeships. Kate Ridley-Moy told us funding rules updates for 24/25 will see a reduction in the required regulatory of progress reviews. Work continues to improve the bureaucracy attached to on boarding employers and apprentices. However there was no commitment to timescales in improving the existing system. What are your thoughts??

In the Government's spring budget announcement, SME businesses received a welcome boost: the removal of the co-investment fee that previously obligated employers to contribute toward the cost of apprentices' training. The Government has pledged to fully fund Apprenticeships in small businesses starting April 1st, covering the entire training cost for individuals up to the age of 21. This move aims to alleviate financial burdens on businesses and create more opportunities for young people to initiate their careers. Jamie Rowley, Director of Apprenticeships & Employer Services at City College Plymouth, emphasised the significance of this announcement, stating that it would be well-received by training providers and employers alike. He noted that this initiative would open up more avenues for young individuals seeking career opportunities. For instance, an employer hiring a plumbing apprentice with a training cost of £21,000 would save £1,050 by no longer paying the 5% co-investment fee. City College's Employer Solutions team is ready to assist your business with all its training and development needs. For advice and guidance, please contact us at 01752 305026.
