🚨New publicstion with Alex Beckey Jordan Wintle and Mats Hordvik in Sport, Education and Society The paper adopts a storytelling approach to explore meaningful teacher educator practices. Key message: “We strongly advocate for employers/senior management to provide spaces, possibly through communities of learners, for teacher educators to open up vulnerably about one’s own practice. This can have numerous benefits to the respective department/school, for instance, creating a sense of belonging amongst staff/teacher educators and sharing teaching practices to benefit student learning. Central to these created spaces is creating and nurturing a safe and inclusive environment to allow teacher educators to be vulnerable – this takes, and deserves, time and support, but as shown in this research, is a worthwhile process.” Read Open Access at: https://lnkd.in/gKq_jyja Deakin University

Have you ever taken a minute or two to consider what you find meaningful in your work? This is precisely what we (Dylan, Alex, Mats and I) did over a series of meetings, using storytelling to analyse how we found meaning in our work (or sometimes not). Dylan summarises the key messages below, and you can read the full paper on the link (open access).

December is upon us! Soon, the university will ask students to fill out online course questionnaires reviewing their faculty. This is a typical practice at nearly all universities. If you struggle with being reviewed by 18-22-year-olds (and who could blame you?), check out my blog post about OCQ Game Plans: https://lnkd.in/gkhUUnug. If you're IU-local, join me and a colleague for a session on how to utilize OCQs to improve your teaching: https://lnkd.in/grtEgJx6

Navigating parent-teacher conferences can be difficult, but it's an important part of supporting our children's education. Am I the only one who feels this way? Let’s unpack how to turn these meetings into opportunities to truly understand and support our children’s learning. The benefits of parent-teacher conferences are about more than just checking off a box. They’re about creating an environment where our children can thrive. By forging bonds with educators, understanding our child's academic landscape, and working together, we enhance their learning experience. As the saying goes, “Education is a partnership between home and school.” Let’s embrace this partnership for our children’s sake. In the next blog I'll share some actionable steps that go with this blog's information. Read more at: https://lnkd.in/d4Te4j6a

Update: Our form has closed - thanks to all who filled it out! Looking for teachers who are game to share how they're being asked to spend their time! TNTP is beginning a new research project where we want to understand how teachers are being asked to spend their time. We will be looking at what existing research has said about how much time teachers spend on different aspects of their work, how teachers feel about their time use, how it's recently changed due to technology, and how it differs by school contexts. Before reviewing existing research, we want to talk with current K-12 teachers to hear their thoughts about the types of activities on which they are currently spending time. We are assembling a panel of 20 teachers to hear their opinions. Participating in this panel includes: Joining a 30-60 minute virtual focus group with other panel participants in October or November. Reviewing a presentation summarizing what TNTP learned after reviewing existing research on teacher time use. Joining a 30-60 minute virtual focus group to provide feedback on TNTP's presentation. Teachers who are selected to join the panel and complete the above three tasks will receive a $150 stipend. To indicate interest in participating, teachers can provide their information at this form: https://lnkd.in/dZJ-Savj We will then randomly select 20 teachers from all those who indicate they are interested.
