Over two years ago, I embarked on a project in Latin America to celebrate our 10 years as a brand and also to look back on the milestones that helped us grow to become the leading platform for social change in the region. Just last week, while checking for something, I came across our teaser trailer for the documentary we launched at the end of 2022. And it got me thinking about the rapid changes in the digital ecosystem, as well as how we now connect as organizations with citizens. And this is what caught my attention—do you agree with me? ⭕ Authenticity, storytelling, and being who we truly are are what’s working right now in a world where people want to be more private and build niche or close communities. So, being real and local is key. ⭕ AI and AI policy are things we need to be more aware of, bringing accountability to those sharing information. Now, more than ever, as we consume our information more on social media than in traditional media outlets, this is key to setting ourselves apart from fake news. ⭕ How we are mobilizing is also changing. We need to connect and raise our voices—yes! But we need to do it in our tribe, and then make our case so strong that we can connect with others. I’ll start thinking more about this and sharing my insights with all of you.

Last week, Simu Liu made headlines on Dragons' Den when he called out the cultural appropriation of bubble tea during a tense pitch. His powerful stand highlighted how difficult it can be to raise cultural issues, even in professional settings. Liu faced resistance—dismissal and deflection—just like many employees do when speaking up about cultural appropriation at work. What does this have to do with the workplace? The power of language is often underestimated: it subtly shapes our thoughts and, consequently, our actions. The sci-fi film "Arrival" perfectly illustrates this concept, where the protagonist gains the ability to perceive future events by mastering an alien language. For companies expanding globally, with increasingly diverse employees and customer bases, a critical question emerges: Is there a universal language that can break down cultural barriers and help win more customers? Join us this Friday for a discussion on this topic. Interested?
