Just take a look at these photos from last year! As a stenographic court reporter, I am feeling profound pride in my profession during the current Trump trial. The *human* court reporter is the epitome of non-partisan, non-biased representation in our legal system. I actually heard a commentator on one of the major networks lament how the NY court system should be “digitized” so that the transcripts can be instantaneous, and so, during jury deliberations, the jurors can easily have testimony read back. Well, what if the words giving weight are wrong? What if they’ve been manipulated? That undermines our whole system of law. With no cameras in the courtroom, the court reporters have provided verbatim (no opinion, commentary, weight on one aspect or another) - to news outlets, thus single handedly ( pun intended) providing accurate, verbatim testimony in the case. How it is dissected, dispersed, interpreted, is out of the court reporters’ hands, (again, pun intended) but verbatim testimony remains the one pure thing. Sending a huge shoutout to the New York court reporters on this case. Well done.

Leveraging technology in the courtroom to ensure timely access to justice is a commendable initiative. However, a trained, certified professional must be present to oversee the process. Therefore, it is essential to approve the inclusion of all modes of court reporting. While voicewriting has recently been adopted, it is now time to embrace digital reporting as well. The American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers #AAERT strongly advocates for having a highly trained, certified professional in the room to act as the guardian of the record. This professional is responsible for accurately capturing and monitoring the record in the room. Digital reporters, stenographic reporters, and voicewriters are all capable of fulfilling this critical role. #courtreporting #digitalreporting #stenography #voicewriting

#BilzinSumberg Trial & Litigation Attorneys Robert L. Raskopf, Kenneth Duvall, Megan Barney, and Patricia Patino examine the US Supreme Court's decision to remand cases from Florida and Texas concerning laws that limit social media platforms' content moderation back to the lower courts. The Bloomberg Law article highlights that the Court's guidance suggests that social media communications and their moderation are protected under the First Amendment. The decision highlights the ongoing legal debate about whether social media companies can be treated like common carriers, which would require them to allow all content without discrimination. The cases will return to the lower courts for further analysis, with significant implications for the future of digital communication and free speech. Read the full article: https://bit.ly/4cN0rXE
