Certificate Of Participation National virtual moot court competition from Elawfirm! A little delayed in posting, but it's always a pleasure to share something this special! I'm thrilled to have participated in my first-ever national virtual moot court competition, and what an experience it was! For the first time, I got to learn the intricacies of filing a petition under Article 199, including the procedures and drafting techniques that mirror real-life scenarios.

I am looking forward to being a volunteer judge for 1L oral arguments next week! I have done this for the last couple of years and have been so impressed by how prepared the law students are and how well they do! My advice to students participating in 1L oral arguments is: ▪ Prepare well! This is the best way to boost confidence and do a good job. Know the cases, your arguments, and how to respond to the other party’s arguments. ▪ A little confidence goes a long way! So does a conversational style. Make eye contact with judges and try to avoid reading your arguments. ▪ If you don’t know the answer to something, take a few seconds to think about how you will respond. It is okay to be silent while you are collecting your thoughts rather than saying “um” or “uh”. (I know this is easier said than done!) ▪Try to enjoy the process, if possible! My fellow volunteer judges and I all enjoy seeing you succeed. Even if a judge asks hard questions to try to give you the experience of being in a courtroom, they ultimately want you to succeed and excel! Good luck!! #lawstudent #lawschool #1L #oralarguments

Had a chance to act as a judge for 1st IIUI National Moot Court Competitionz 2024 organized by IIUI's Moot Court Society. It was an amazing experience knowing how well our institutes are progressing through coordinated efforts in the realm of legal education. I shared the panel with one of my worthy, really competent senior, Syed Ali Kazmi back in times at C&T LawFirm which added to the great experience. Mooting might not be the only way to polish one's skills of advocacy but surely one of significant, impactful practice. For acting adjudicators, there is a great role to play by giving a constructive feedback aligned with best practices (Might not be necessarily ones frequently observed in our domestic courts). Moreover, there has been a pattern often seen that adjudicators tend to judge the mooties on the scale of the knowledge they possess on the subject which should not be the case. A rational amount of questions must be asked to check the preparation of mooties but that too confined to the issues mooties are asked to prepare. Wish the young aspirants a very best of luck for their future endeavors.

🌟 Thrilled to Share My Experience at the JURIS SPECTRA Workshop! 🌟 Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a 2-day workshop organized by JURIS SPECTRA, on 17-18 August, 2024 which focused on guiding law students through the nuances of moot court competitions. The workshop was conducted by none other than Ranita Ma’am, the Winner and Best Speaker of the 9th KIT National Moot Court Competition 2023! 🎉 🗓 Day 1: We dove deep into the foundations of mooting: 👉Understanding what MOOTING is and its significance in legal education. 👉The importance of NETWORKING, RESEARCHING, and WRITING SKILLS in moots. 👉Elements of a moot court competition, focusing on WRITTEN SUBMISSIONS, memorials, and the structure of these documents. 👉Learning about REFERENCING, FORMATTING, and how to compile a COMPENDIUM that includes case laws, statutes, treaties, and more. 🗓 Day 2: It was all about ORAL PLEADINGS: The stages of a moot court competition – PRELIMINARY, QUARTER-FINAL, SEMI-FINALS and the FINAL ROUND. 👉Key learnings on REBUTTAL and SUR-REBUTTAL– the tactical responses from both the petitioner/applicant and the respondent. 👉We also discussed COURTROOM MANNERISMS and how to present arguments confidently in front of a judge panel. 📚 A special highlight was discovering tools like ZOTEROBIB and MENDELEY for automatic citations – essential for referencing during competitions! 👉This experience not only sharpened my legal skills but also gave me a glimpse into the challenges and rewards of moot courts, further igniting my passion for law. 💼⚖️ Looking forward to applying these valuable insights in future moot court competitions and beyond. Mooting competitions: a great value for future lawyers Last year, the Maastricht University Moot Court Team won the Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition in Strasbourg. Our recent reunion interview highlights the incredible growth and achievements of team members Sadie, Benedetta, Saskia, James, Mateus, and Šejla. Mooting is more than a competition; it’s a learning experience that hones research, public speaking, and teamwork skills, preparing future lawyers for real-world practice. It shows the importance of integrating moot courts into legal education. Saskia: “Maybe it's a bold claim, but I think there is little in law school that prepares you as much for the practical side of legal practice; especially in relation to research skills and soft skills." Maastricht University is proud of its Moot Court Team!
