Alo charges $22 for their socks. But how much do they really cost? After some digging through import records, I discovered: - Alo manufactures many of their socks with a factory called Dankin in Taipei, Taiwan. - Taiwan is one of the best places globally for high-end sport sock production. - At 1200 units, these socks cost just $1.39 to make. That's a markup of over 1480%. Key insights: 1. Brand premium is real. You're paying for marketing, distribution, and brand value. 2. Sourcing directly can lead to significant savings. 3. Volume matters in manufacturing. Larger orders typically mean lower per-unit costs. For businesses: There's room for competitive pricing while maintaining healthy margins. For consumers: Understanding production costs can help make informed purchasing decisions. What product would you like to see a cost breakdown for next?

INVENTORS - Don’t price your products based on what you pay to manufacture them! One of the big mistakes inventors make when it comes to pricing their products is when they base their selling cost and suggested retail price on what they pay from the factory when they have them made. Some basic terminology here to help you - manufacturing price is the price you pay the factory to make your product. Cost is the price the retailer pays you for your product. MSRP (manufacturers suggested retail price) is the price the retailer charges their customers. Some people use different terms for these things, but for the sake of discussion, I am keeping this simple. So, if you pay 10.00 from the factory, and you charge a retailer 20.00 for it, you can suggest they sell it for 40.00. If this is a basic glass coffee mug, then the price you are paying from the factory may be way to much! Consumers will only pay what they think something is worth, so unless this coffee mug is the most unique and amazing mug they have ever seen, they likely won’t pay more than 10-15 dollars for it. This also means that you need to go back to the factory and get a better price! Sometimes that better price is based on volume and other factors, but having a lower cost means you can offer your product for a competitive price to the retailer who can in turn offer a great price to the consumer. #inventing #licensing #retail #success #manufacturing

Garments distribution takes up too much space! A system for controlled distribution and collection of garments is a space-efficient solution. Throughout the years, your inventory increases. This is mostly due to purchasing items for the sake of user comfort or to comply with the latest guidelines of the Working Conditions Agency or government. What starts off with a few small garments lockers can quickly become a huge unorganised mess of garments on shelves or in wardrobes without any control mechanism for what is actually needed. In such a situation, the space required for garments distribution can increase significantly. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gfkTgAfK

In retail, what you don’t sell is just as important as what you sell—maybe even more important, as the costs of maintaining and managing too much inventory can wipe out any revenue generated by sales. Good inventory management is about having “the right amount” in stock. That much is obvious, but what exactly is “the right amount”?
