Marketing budget and cost reduction are two sides of the same coin in a business's financial health. While a robust marketing budget fuels brand awareness and customer acquisition, cost reduction ensures financial stability. The key lies in striking a balance. Strategic cost optimization in non-essential areas can free up resources for impactful marketing campaigns. However, slashing marketing budgets too drastically risks hindering brand growth and revenue generation. Ultimately, achieving a harmonious equilibrium between these two forces is crucial for sustainable long-term success.

The 2 most important skill sets a marketer should have ⬇️: 1. The ability to serve as a thought-partner. 2. The ability to execute on strategy. A lot of times, people think they just need someone who can get stuff done. But it's a combination of thought partnership and being able to really aggressively execute. It's those two pieces together that make a really good marketing consultant. It’s a big differentiator, because a lot of people out there are strategic, but they can't execute. And then you have a lot of people who can execute, but they can't do the deep thinking that’s required to strategize. There's something about the two of those things together that makes for an amazing combination in marketing.

In marketing and advertising, we face many challenges, often due to organisations and companies hiring the wrong people to lead key departments. I believe the marketing department should be run by someone who thoroughly understands both the internal and external aspects of marketing. This includes a deep knowledge of the region in which the company operates and a clear understanding of how marketing works, including the tools and strategies that drive success. Unfortunately, hiring people based on factors like race, loyalty, friendship, or family ties is detrimental to progress and hinders the effectiveness of marketing efforts.

If you're the marketing manager, just think about it. The online team works hard to get orders, but when it's time to deliver, the offline team holds onto the stock saying 'we'll sell it to another customer later,' then reports that the item is out of stock. So, if we were to optimize, what exactly should we optimize? A strategy without accompanying policies is just some prose!

During an interview today, I was asked what I would do if a colleague gave me advice on marketing for the business. My response? First, I would listen (not just hear) to what they had to say because I know I can learn something from everyone, even if I'm the only marketer in the room. Why is this important? - Non-marketers can experience marketing differently - Someone's advice might spark an idea - People deserve to be listened to - I am constantly learning With that, I always listen to ideas with a grain of salt. Not every idea is a good one. Often, best practices and industry regulations are more important than a fun idea. How do you respond to this? #marketing

Marketing is great because everyone has advice on how to do your job better. — Joe M. Marketing is nearly always stretched for resources, whether that's manpower and time, or money We have to continually make sacrifices, tough decisions, and need to prioritise to get the best return on investment Campaigns take time and resources, often more than recognised outside of the department Unfortunately in a lot of cases, people think that Marketing just do whatever they feel like that day A good strategy, timeline, and aims, backed up with data can do wonders to dispel this myth — P.S. Traditional marketing vs Perceptual marketing. Throughout my career understanding the difference between approaching the two often determines the success you seek. Once you align your marketing efforts accordingly, you’ll see the engagement levels increase as the “sell” becomes a much easier task. Win the battle in mind first, then through the eyes and ears… 👍
